Ummmm Yeah but no, that is not the case. We are in FCPS and I can’t think of a single school, never mind any part of the county, where 25% of the kids are out of school for any reason. And I post on several Facebook groups where the parents are checking the dashboard daily fretting over case counts. |
I think as there is no one advocating for kids they will have to wear masks for a few more years. The goalposts will be moved again and again and again but it all boils down to school admin not wanting any responsibility for possible cases |
I think they will be gone before the next school year depending on community spread and 5-12 vaccination rates |
+1 I think if we get down to "low" / blue and have most kids vaccinated the masks will go away. Could maybe even happen by spring 2022. CDC says masks not required for vaccinated people in areas with low/moderate transmission. |
Sounds reasonable to me! |
I think we are pretty close to that now. I still believe young kids should not be masked right now given our community numbers and vaccination rates. I'm so tired of the "studies" showing that Masks Work! without controlling for vaccine rates. |
Not yet. Still "substantial". https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view|Virginia|51013|Risk|community_transmission_level |
I hope they do away with that metric. Number of cases becomes irrelevant if vaccination rates are high and negative outcomes (hospitalizations and deaths) are low. We know vaccines don’t prevent infection - they prevent serious disease and mortality. |
I agree cases should not be the relevant metric. But vaccines do reduce likelihood of getting COVID and likelihood of transmitting even if it’s not as high as it once was w COVID OG. It’s preposterous our country isn’t having the conversation about masks without politics. My family in Europe is completely perplexed that my kids are masking in primary school. |
I agree...there are maximum 2 hospitalizations in Arlington at any given time. |
I think it's reasonable to do away with masks if the community is 'moderate' or below according to the CDC dashboard. That's what my workplace is doing. |
Do you guys understand that a lot of teachers will walk out if kids who are not vaccinated don't wear masks? It is definitely a thing that we've talked about in my school. |
Why? That’s ridiculous if they have been vaccinated. It’s not as if Covid is never going to be present in schools. It’s silly to think kids will have to wear masks forever for a virus for which adults have been vaccinated! |
I think there are many of us who would be happy to be rid of them. I think the way they are worn in the average elementary classroom is minimal protection. |
??? Y'all are doing something wrong then. We have full compliance and no issues. |
