WAGS brackets are out

It isn't really much of a showcase as only a few fairly small local schools attend so there is no showcasing advantage to speak of so playing up is likely for the challenge. The overall strength of the tournament is really focused on U10-U14/U15. Older ECNL/GA teams will focus on their showcases rather than travel to this. You might get some local ECNL/GA teams playing in it but not many.

Add to the fact that Covid is still a cloud several teams may just not want to travel for it as well.

But here is the college list to scroll. There are some good schools to be sure but schools are not really traveling for it either. The fact that the tournament is held during the peak of the College Soccer season is another huge reason why it is not much of a showcase. So coaches will drive up the street or a 1.5 for a game but not much more than that.

Why would a tournament for girls call itself WAGS?

WAGS used to be a league, and yes it was Washington Area Girls Soccer.

WAGS was the top girls league in the area for a number of years. It has been absorbed by NCSL now but this tournament remains.

To be honest. More than likely not. Interesting that sporting DE 07 GA is top bracket in 07 group. Don’t think FCV wants to play them again.

I wonder why Loudoun never plays up… moreover, I find it deeply concerning they usually play in lower tiered brackets than their league counterparts. Why’s that?

Because they like to win tournaments.

Unfortunately they don’t win them. FCV does. Playing up. So much for that ECNL hype…………

I don't think that any of these teams should be playing up. In a worse tournament maybe, but in a well-attended tournament like this, FCV of any of these other teams just aren't significantly better than at least 4-5 teams in the top bracket of their own age group. Just play that and win it if you are good enough to win it. Otherwise, playing up just gives you an excuse if you have a poor performance.

Says the guy that will be posting on this board the week after the tournament. "Yeah, we lost, but we played an age group up. Our development is great and our program is great. We are too good for our age group and we definitely would have won except that we played an age group up."
