| I started the Metabolism Makeover and it completely got rid of my urge to snack. You do a 12 hour fast overnight. (I do 8:30pm-8:30am which is super easy). The. You eat every 4 hours. Every meal contains protein, healthy fat and fiber. No counting calories or tracking. When you follow this formula, you just naturally make healthier choices and you will be amazed at how much longer you stay full. I don’t have any issue passing over my kids crackers or left over Mac and cheese. I’ve lots 12 pounds in 4 months! |
I did the same. I started snacking on broccoli, spinach, and apples and it was almost zero calories but kept me full. I just wish I could easily carry broccoli around without having to cook it or refrigerate it. |
| Replace snacking with tea. Buy fresh mint leaves, ginger, cinnamon sticks, lemon and start making tea whenever you feel the urge to snack. |
| OP, your kids are a great age. They only eat what you provide -- so don't have things in the house -you- shouldn't eat. Go out and specifically get "a treat" every few days. Buy it specifically to eat then, at that time. I can go 4 days of disciplined eating, and on the 5th day need to indulge some. But it's out-to-the store, purchased, eaten, and done. You'll have to make this all about you. DH may have to enjoy his snacks, in other ways, away from the house ... or minimally, hide them from you. |
Not sure about broccoli as I don't like you, but I have no problem carrying around prewashed grape tomatoes, mini cucumbers, pilled carrots (I don't do baby carrots) for couple of hours without refrigeration. Just make sure your veggie are not on their last leg and completely dry after watching. |

Stop. Buying. Processed. Processed Food.
Out of sight, out of mind |
This would definitely help. What about when DC’s camp requires that you send a mid-morning snack? I don’t have time to make homemade snacks, and even if I did, I would just eat too many of them during the baking process. I think food is my comfort, a reliable dopamine surge. It’s like I have no willpower. Thanks to the PPs who suggested fruits and vegetables as snacks. And the idea about making it all about me, having DH hide snacks etc. |
| Weight watchers is an amazing program. And you can have snacks, it just has to fit into your points. Try it for a month. |
Thank you for the suggestion! I think I do need something like weight watchers, that has a community element to it. But I tried Weight Watchers online two years ago and stopped tracking after a week or so. |
Can you please post your meals? How do you know you are not overeating? What foods do you eat? What is the fiber for your meal? Fruit and veggies? Thanks! |
| This is OP, I just re-joined Weight Watchers. The last time I tried it I was 2 month postpartum, so I’m in a different place now, so maybe it will work. |
| I floss, brush my teeth, use mouthwash and have a piece of sugar free gum. I find that having a nice clean mouth helps inhibit my appetite and being able to chew a little on some gum also satisfies my urge to eat something. Strong mints help too. |
