Did people forget how to drive?

Anonymous
I was angrily honked at and given the finger for ... using the correct lane to go straight through a green light. Someone was angry at me because they were using the right turn only lane to go straight through the same green light and apparently I was in their way.

Perfect example of a person who makes the roads more dangerous for everyone, and who thinks that breaking the law themselves (not complying with slower traffic keeping right / using left lane to pass) makes them morally superior.

Already smashed my driver's side mirror trying to get out of a spot in a garage because I somehow discounted the possibility of poles. It doesn't help that I've gone blind during covid and have the attention span of a snail.

Awwww! Your writing made me smile. Thank you for that.

+1

PP is going to get someone killed. Go with the flow of traffic or move TF over.

I was behind someone in a straight lane who blocked the lane to wait to squeeze into a left turn only lane. Selfish and stupid. Everyone was honking but they wouldn't budge.

I was taught if you miss your turn you DON'T stop. Just maintain the flow of traffic and look for the next turn. It was less than 1/8 mile up the road, easy u-ey.

Have people not been taught this? Why is missing a turn the end of the world? GPS?

You probably didn't realize it but that was a Very Important Person. Now you know.

Those who were driving got used to mostly empty streets over the past year and are irritated at the traffic. Those who didn’t drive - forgot how. Not a great combination.

You all better be teaching your kids how to drive properly.

Wait, what? So was the turn lane full and they were just behind the last car waiting to get in the lane? Or were they stopped beside cars in the lane?

I ask because for some reason, people in DC think that making a legal left hand turn that stops traffic behind them in that lane is cause to honk, threaten, and scream at people unless they either drive into head on traffic or mow down any pedestrians in the crosswalk. The driver isn't doing anything illegal, they are just mad they have to stop for 5 seconds on a busy city street.

I don't care. I didn't pay over $100k for this Range Rover to sit waiting behind your ugly Toyota. Get out of my way.

That happened to me yesterday. I was making a legal left turn off 16th Street and the guy behind me nearly hit me trying to squeeze past me. I had pulled up as much as possible to let the cars behind me pull around, anticipating that they would try to do so anyway, but I still got tons of honks. Drivers are so damn impatient that it's scary sometimes.

I agree it's awful, and it's all over the place here. What can we do about it??
