| B meets are far more important than A meets for kids. Most of the A meet swimmers are year round and don't even go to the swim practices. They should be required to practice with the teams at least 3 times a week to qualify for meets. Its pretty crappy to ignore the regular swimmers and only do the elite swimmers. Elite swimmers already have meets/teams. |
I hope this doesn’t happen at our pool. We know there are going to be limits on the number of kids at practices. If the year round swimmers take those spots there will be way fewer options for my kids who don’t swim year round. |
Agreed! |
| A swimmers and B swimmers at our pool pay the same fee. In fact there are more B swimmers than A. I would be real pissed if only A swimmers got to attend meets. |
Should year round swimmers get a discount if asked not to join practices? The team spends far more time in practice than in meets. There really shouldn’t be separate A teams & B teams. Those that qualify for A meets should be adjusted weekly based on current fastest times. |
This feels short sighted to me. As long as non-A meet swimmers have a chance to post times, (maybe more time trials at practice) won’t there be some mixing between meets? At our pool, kids move in and out of the A meets based on posting better times, kids being away etc. there is not an “A team” you make at the beginning of the season. Kids get “called up” all the time. |
Exactly. |
| Right now, our McSl pool says no parents at practices or meets (unless you have signed up to work). A B meet just has way way more kids at it than an A meet. Maybe there could be designated parents to supervise everyone but it’s a lot of kids, many of whom do not know what they’re supposed to be doing. Then there’s the issue of masks & distancing if kids still have to do that. If mcsl relaxes some of the rules it might be more feasible |
The kids of friends of ours swim at Carderock Springs. They are not too happy as the team is not participating in MCSL this year and by the time they were told it was too late to go elsewhere. |
Its not too late to go anywhere. We just joined a pool this year and swim team. Just days ago. |
The thing is- if you don't do B meets, then most kids are not going to get a 'time' to get to be the 'current fastest time.' |
This will be DCs (age 9) first real swim team summer. I know there are time trials before the 1st meet, but is that what determines who is A team for the rest of the season, or do they time the kids at some point during each week of practices to see their progress/assess who should be in that weekend’s A meet? |
A meets are based on the previous weeks times. So, no b meet, then it’s probably only 3 kids for the meets who don’t even practice with the team. |
typically a kid who doesn't make the 1st meet gets times at b meets. Weekly they look at best times, from both A and B meets and time trials. Getting a time during practice is both not realistic and not legitimate. (e.g. not 3 timers, not a starter, etc.) A practice has multiple kids in a lane, and a few coaches. Its just not set up to actually get times. |
The pools individually need to figure out how to collect those times if not participating in B dual meets. |
