I have no idea! That’s why I’m asking DCUM

Tampons are absorbent. Sometimes they hang a little low and when you pee, the urine gets soaked upwards. Do people really not know this?!?

Yes, but when my tampon hangs low or isn't inserted all the way, I feel it - it pinches. OP, are you sure it's inserted all the way?

Hmm. OP here. That’s scary! Yikes

I'm sorry, I don't mean to scare you. But after MIL going through 3 rounds of chemo at stage IVB, ignoring weird discharge for 2 years, just get uterus checked. But most likely it's ph balance or nothing at all. you're pretty young.

Yes

What could it be other than urine? Discharge? I will definitely be making an appointment w/ the doctor.

It might be sweat instead of leakage

I can see how urine would get absorbed by a tampon way easier than I can see how sweat would.

That sometimes happens to me if my tampon is a little low/not quite in there right or if I pee a lot. Always thought it was normal.

Nah. Happens all the time to lots of people. Relax.

What are you saying "nah" to?

Thanks. I made an appointment w/ my doctor, although they didn’t have an opening until end of June.

Do you change it before you pee?

Sometimes I pee first, and other times I pee after. It’s not saturated from the act of urinating. Before I even pee, I can feel it’s saturated.

You're peeing on the string and it's wicking urine up into the tampon itself.

This. NBD.

From Wikipedia: About half of menstrual fluid is blood. This blood contains sodium, calcium, phosphate, iron, and chloride, the extent of which depends on the woman. As well as blood, the fluid consists of cervical mucus, vaginal secretions, and endometrial tissue. Vaginal fluids in menses mainly contribute water, common electrolytes, organ moieties, and at least 14 proteins, including glycoproteins.

Half of what is coming out isn't blood, so it's possible it's not urine. Also it doesn't make sense that your tampon could get saturated with urine. It's improbable given the location of your urethra and the tampon and gravity, etc. That doesn't rule out that you are leaking urine while you have your period, but that's not what's on your tampon.

All of this is irrelevant considering your actual problem is that your underwear are getting wet from the fluid, whatever it is. Wear a pantyliner, the end.

Thank you for skipping over that. Panty liner, yes. Will do. Just wanted to pick everyone’s brain as to *why* it could be happening. For example, I thought someone might say “yup, happened to me, sign of pre menopause.” Or something along those lines.

I bet it's definitely the string in my case. I'd started 'drying' it with TP by squeezing it, that seemed to help. Also agree about the panty liner. This became a non-issue when I switched to the cup (pandemic experiment).

Yes I think this is it.

I’ve worn tampons for decades and never had that happen. The string - occasionally. But never the insert.
