Does this happen to anyone else? When I remove a tampon, it is saturated....but it seems to be saturated with a mix of blood and urine. It’s a clear salty fluid, so I’m assuming it’s urine?? It smells like urine. And the problem is it leaks! My underwear get wet from it. Blood never leeks, only the clear fluid leaks. This only happens when I have my period. I don’t leak urine any other time. I’m 43. It’s really annoying because I have to change my underwear so often. My period is generally short and light, otherwise. |
How does the tampon get soaked with urine? Urine doesn't come out of the vagina. |
That is very concerning. Especially because it's not happening at other times, I'd be concerned that it's not urine. This seems worthy of at least a call to a doctor. |
Is your tampon inserted high enough? Is it soaking the string, and then water/urine traveling up it to soak the main tampon part?
Does it do this only when you use the bathroom to pee, or are you leaking without urinating? |
I have no idea! That’s why I’m asking DCUM |
Are you sure it's urine and not just your normal vaginal discharge? |
What could it be other than urine? Discharge? I will definitely be making an appointment w/ the doctor. |
No, I’m not sure. |
So I'm going to just skip over how you know the fluid is salty...
From Wikipedia: About half of menstrual fluid is blood. This blood contains sodium, calcium, phosphate, iron, and chloride, the extent of which depends on the woman. As well as blood, the fluid consists of cervical mucus, vaginal secretions, and endometrial tissue. Vaginal fluids in menses mainly contribute water, common electrolytes, organ moieties, and at least 14 proteins, including glycoproteins. Half of what is coming out isn't blood, so it's possible it's not urine. Also it doesn't make sense that your tampon could get saturated with urine. It's improbable given the location of your urethra and the tampon and gravity, etc. That doesn't rule out that you are leaking urine while you have your period, but that's not what's on your tampon. All of this is irrelevant considering your actual problem is that your underwear are getting wet from the fluid, whatever it is. Wear a pantyliner, the end. |
Thank you for skipping over that. Panty liner, yes. Will do. Just wanted to pick everyone’s brain as to *why* it could be happening. For example, I thought someone might say “yup, happened to me, sign of pre menopause.” Or something along those lines. |
Get abdominal ultrasound or MRI or something. just to rule out stuff. |
uterine cancer makes weird discharge. and BV from weird PH. there's PH tampons you can try |
It might be sweat instead of leakage |
Nah. Happens all the time to lots of people. Relax. |
Hmm. OP here. That’s scary! Yikes |
