TMI - urine in tampon

Anonymous
I have this happen all the time. It’s pee traveling up the tampon string. My fix is that I hold the string out of the way while I pee. I drink a ton of water and pee often so I definitely don’t change my tampon each time. Who goes through 10 tampons a day?!

I do think my uterus is seated lower or something. I can also feel the menstrual cup is too low sometimes.

This is a classic sign for fistula. Have you delivered a child or had any vaginal/uterine trauma? If so, please see a gyno—this is fixable with easy surgery.

It is normal. The people scaring her with uterine cancer are complete nut jobs.

Always. ALWAYS in these threads someone will come along and jump to cancer. It is so damn annoying.

I have this occasionally and literally never thought anything of it. It really only happens at the end of my cycle when the flow is light. But it’s not frequent - maybe a couple times every few cycles. I assumed it was pee or just moisture or some kind of discharge that mixed with the blood.

Just to add - when it happens, it’s usually when I’ve worn a tampon a bit too long - and I have the feeling that I’m leaking, but when I get to the bathroom it’s mostly a clear fluid mixed with some spotting (at the end of my cycle). I’m 50 but I’ve had this for years and have had normal paps.

Nah. Happens all the time to lots of people. Relax.

Same issue here. It's urine. It wicks up the string. Tuck the string inside and try to insert the tampons higher up. There are anatomical differences that can impact proper tampon placement. Not a big deal.

+1 This is the most likely explanation and simplest solution.

Why then, swimming in a pool does it stay perfectly dry? I don't think I'm a wicker! haha.

OP here. Yes, that completely alarmed me! Cancer had not occurred to me. But I am over due for GYN appointment so I’ll ask when I go. I think you all are right, it’s urine wicking up. Over the last year or two my flow has gotten lighter and I probably only change every 4 hours but pee more frequently.

No. I had two c-sections.

If its Playtex, they have the wicking strings. SUCKS!!! totally gets my tampon soaked. never had the problem until I used the new Playtex and now almost all their tampons have that stupid string.

I think you are overthinking this. Relax, stop thinking about it, and bring it up at your next ob gyn visit if you want.

Does it do this only when you use the bathroom to pee, or are you leaking without urinating?

This is what happens to me I think.

I use Playtex too.

It's happened to me as well. Tampon inserted properly. I'll go to sleep and wake up to it full of urine, but I didn't pee on myself, but of course my bladder is full overnight

The first thing I would do is switch to pads for your next period and see if you have the same problem.
