I've lost 14 pounds on Noom since February. I just really like the accountability. I don't reach out to my "coach", but I do log all of my food and exercise. I also do my lessons daily which is the difference. I used to love WW, but always gave up after a few pounds. Noom makes me realize that it's a journey not a race. |
I tried it and I don’t get the hype. Glad it worked for you though. It set my calories at 1200. Well, no kidding, I can lose weight if I eat three snacks a day instead of three meals. The lessons might be good for someone who isn’t familiar with it but nothing has been new to me so far. |
I have tried it twice. A year ago I hated it, but now I’m losing weight and really excited. Part of my weight issues stem from a skinny husband who doesn’t understand why we can’t have X. Being able to say, “honey, that’s a red food,” gives him clear info on what the dinner he’s wanting will do to me. If I say I need soup, we eat soup. Zero complaints.
What’s better: 1. they’ve put a lot more foods in the tracker. 2. I chose that I wanted lots of support, so I got a coach instead of a group. 3. I learned to put my plate on a scale, zero it out, and weigh each food as I put it on down to the gram. It’s super quick and easy. Not all foods are measured in grams, but I put a note in to have them change it. I’m just not going to use a measuring cup, because it’s another dish to clean. 4. If I drink enough water and eat enough green foods, I don’t get hungry. |
This reminds me of a program through my health insurance 10 years ago. I really got into it and enjoyed the articles. The coach wasn't very helpful, and I never logged calories. I did lose weight. For me, it was interesting to read about healthy eating and how certain foods affect your body, etc. You have to do a low calorie diet on noom right? |
Yes, it is a low-calorie program. The red/yellow/green concept is based on the idea behind Volumetrics, which is basically saying that a dried raisin (red) is less filling than a grape (green) because grapes take up more room in your stomach. |
PP here. Nothing was new to me either. I work out like crazy and didn't need all of the lessons, but I did like the constant accountability. The question for you is while you know what to do, have you lost the weight and kept it off? |
I am glad that Noom worked for many people. But, before you sign up, be aware that Noom sells your information. They are NOT unique in this... I am aware of that... many/most companies sell data. But before you load in personal health data, and continue to feed the program all kinds of information about you and your life, research it a bit and make sure that you are okay with it. I will repeat though that weight loss is so difficult, and can be demoralizing, and I am truly glad some folks here have had success. |
omg, now i want to try it |
I just started and like it. Way less oppressive than WW and it feels guided and personalized. Not using the coach or groups. Red, yellow and green foods are easy to keep in mind e.g. I look up before I order takeout.
Ultimately everything is calorie in calorie out. Noom is no miracle. 1200 is my allowance. It somehow makes it a bit more tolerable. And btw I don't adhere to the breakdown strictly, like I still have my glass of whole milk and chai latte even though they are red. You are not penalized but nudged towards healthier foods and calorie goals. I think its simplicity is the key. |
I tried Noom. 1200 calories seems to be their magic number.
I tried to get into it, but the tone of the writing was insulting. One article encourages “have a cookie!” because I, the reader, did such a good job ... reading? Wtf. I quit. They pestered by email offering something like 75% off. The LoseIt app has been great. Good food library, etc. Just very straightforward but enough options to customize as needed. |
I wish I could say that Noom worked for me. The advice and food tracking seemed pretty solid, but no matter how much of my food was "green" and how few calories I consumed, I didn't lose even a pound in 4 months. (Other than natural fluctuations.) |
