| Have you not seen the pictures from the resort areas over the past couple of weeks. It is an S show. |
| Yes |
You stay home. We have a life to live and a world to see! |
This OP. We just returned from extension spring break travel with two unvaccinated teens. It was fine. Really, some of you need to come to grips with this. |
It is different because if you get sick in Mexico, the uS won’t let you fly back in. If you are one of the unlucky ones who tests positive for a long time, you are screwed. The idea of getting to Tijuana from my cushy resort in Cabo and then walking across the border is not that exciting to me. |
You can’t say it’s fine yet. |
Why not? It was almost 2 weeks ago. Both kids have had negative Covid tests since. I’m so sorry to disappoint you but we had a fantastic time and no one got sick. |
| You need to have a covid test before you can come back to the US. Many people have had to quaratine for 10 days in Mexico. Not fun. |
NP. Relaying actual events is not hysterical. |
The actual facts of random incidents that happened to your family 25 years ago have no bearing on OPs question |
I looked into that once actually and it is a really really long drive from Cabo to the border. And not a particularly safe drive either—there’s some pretty deserted areas. You might even be better taking a boat across sea of cortes and then driving on the mainland up to Arizona, which would be a drive you could do in a day, but there are stretches where it would just be you and the coyotes (and I don’t mean the canines). I would just worry about going to any country that is having a serious covid problem, worried about the effects on the hospitals and the infrastructure generally. Unfortunately, a lot of Latin America is in that place now. Costa Rica seems like it’s doing pretty well, and I would consider it before my beloved Mexico right now. |

We are going to Cabo for spring break (both adults vaccinated). I Will take precautions. one of my kids had COVID in Jan (through sports or school/close encounter) and it was really mild. If necessary, we will use our means to fly home privately. Travel agent has assured us we can get a covid negative test/paperwork if needed, and she will coordinate (good travel agents are worth their weight in gold right now). We also have proof of COVID diagnosis in January for 1 child (within 90 days) on the CDC form, so we have that as a precaution.
The airport in Cabo is the scariest part for us. But we have flown 2 other times within the US since last March and it was fine - no resulting COVID. We wear 2 masks and a face shield. If we NEED water, we bring straws to put in bottles and slip under the mask and shield. Only if desperate. No food. No bathroom. The car/SUV service from Las Ventanas leaves windows open. We have a villa with a pool, so won't even go to the main pools with other people. Eating outside only. Will post when I get back. |
If you are staying at a high-end hotel, it's actually not that bad. Check with the hotel before you book on what the quarantine accommodations look like. If you have the means for a luxury hotel, it actually ends up ok. |
Travel agent promised to get you a fraudulent negative covid test if necessary? That's, um, some service. |
