Now don't be unfair. The best teams are not afraid to compete - just the ones which have the badge and the pricetag but not the ability. Competing would provide evidence that they are no better, and quite possibly worse, than other nearby clubs which charge half as much. Arlington enters all its teams. Alexandria appears to have done the same. Mclean, to its credit, also does so even though their teams are not all that strong. It's just BRYC, Loudoun, VDA and Richmond that have decided not to. And it wouldn't surprise me at all to see VDA and Richmond enter next year - I'm guessing they didn't even think about it this year as they were not previously allowed to enter when competing in the DA league so it probably just wasn't on their radar. That would leave just Loudoun and BRYC hiding from the competition. The reason is not too hard to find. |
Arlington and McLean have entered their second teams at U13/U14. Arlington Red and McLean green are the 2nd teams once you hit U13. At U12 the ECNL clubs enter their top team although McLean has not entered theirs. Probably still in witness protection. |
You are simply wrong and this is false. The Arlington boys have submitted both the encl and red teams. You obviously know nothing about what they are doing on the boys side. U12 red is second team for boys at Arlington. Please stop broadcasting falsehoods like this and either stop lying or limit your statements to girls. |
I guess they are simply dumber than Arlington, who was in the DA more recently than either Loudoun or McLean. |
Don't quite follow this. VDA and Richmond had full DAs - all age groups were playing in DA and they have not entered a team in state cup for years. It's possible neither of these clubs have ever entered teams in the state cup competition. So state cup was simply not on their radar. I am hoping that they enter next year, but we will see. Arlington had some DA age groups, but had continued to enter non DA age groups in state cup. This year they simply added the age groups which were previously DA. McLean had one DA age group and, in any case, enters its top teams in state cup. Loudoun had three DA age groups, was not awarded additional age groups and left DA the year before it folded. Loudoun does not enter its teams in state cup. My guess this is because they fear having them exposed as no better, or actually worse, than several CCL teams. BRYC was never in the DA so really has no excuse for not entering its teams in state cup. I suspect that parenst there are already well aware that their teams are not as good as most CCL teams, let alone the best ones, so maybe they don't enter just because they want to be cool...? |

For U14 Boys...The top 20 Ranked teams in the state are listed below. Alexandria MLS Next and Arlington ECNL and McLean ECNL are in. So 14 of the top 20 teams are in. Not sure why VDA ECNL, Loudoun ECNL, Richmond ECNL, SYC MLS Next, GFR, and Richmond Strikers did not enter (they are bolded below) but I'm guessing some SYC's players will be playing for Manassas and Villarreal. BRYC ECNL isn't even in the top 20 so really doesn't matter if they are in or out.

| Only teams with USYS passes can enter state cup competition. In VA, that means teams that play NCSL, CCL, or EDP. Club soccer has its own state cup competition (though not as popular). The ECNL McLean and Arlington teams that entered state cup registered for EDP (on top of ECNL), which qualified them to apply for state cup. ECNL was not too happy and there was one instance where there were game conflicts between state cup and ECNL in the fall and Arlington had to play state cup in the morning and then rush to an ECNL game. |
| BRYC ECNL teams did not register for EDP and did not qualify for VA state cup. |
The country club needs to get over it and let the kids play. What the hell is wrong with those people? |
| My son plays for a small u12 club. Competition looks pretty good to me! Let the kids play. Who cares at that age. |
| BRYC has girls teams in each of the spring U14 and below brackets. Looks like might be their second teams. |
Correct. It’s their second teams. |
I was referring to this girls side. There are zero ECNL teams participating. On the boys side Arlington ECNL is doing it |
Once again, for you and the intellectually limited, no girls ECNL team, especially Loudoun, will enter because they cannot afford to get drilled and exposed how shyt they are. Remember, there are some pockets that ought to remain fat. At least as far as the mortgage goes. |

State tournaments should be something all teams do no matter the league. At least through U15. I understand older kids trying to be on the best teams and getting noticed, other leagues' showcases taking precidence and the like, but it's your state. Bring your best and let's see how good you are. Might be one and done or you may get to claim the title. To be the best you have to beat the best. If you think you are already the best then show it. Random flighted tournaments don't give you that.
