Where did your 1380/1400 SAT score and high gpa (mcps) kid get in this year?

DCPS 4.3 weighted GPA, SAT in the range you specify, admitted to Rochester, Richmond, and Dickinson with merit aid and financial aid. Submitted SAT scores to latter two only. Waitlisted at a few higher ranked schools. Still waiting for a couple of decisions.

My MCPS graduating senior got into a science major with a 1370 SAT and 3.9 UW. Got major everywhere but UMD but easy transfer once you pass gateway classes:

UMD Scholars Program
VT
Clemson
Florida
South Carolina
Marquette

Attending UMD in fall.

Totally agree. Is it that the scoring is somehow different, so more kids obtain a 1300/1400+ score, or is it that kids have had increasingly better test preparation? Probably a combination of both.

Tests are way frigg'n easier today than 20-30 years ago. For one, they removed the gat dang analogies and all highly arcane vocabulary from what used to be called the SAT-Verbal when it was actually hard.

Removing arcane words and deciding to focus on more meaningful standards doesn't make it easier.

He got into UMD (fall admit, letters and sciences - I think he applied undecided), UMBC (merit), and University of Washington (merit).
Deferred EA at Northeastern, and I'm not sure what the RD outcome was. TBH, I'm not sure he's checked (he's been....laid back about the whole process).

What amount from UW?
I will let DD apply if it is good, her sat is 1500 and high GPA.

Based on what I can see for schools in 40-100 (plus UF) range rigor and GPA is much more important than SAT . When you hear of kids with high SAT scores rejected it’s usually because they have low GPA. I feel like SAT is a verification of coursework but not a substitution.

I think in the 30s and above you need both- but my kid didn’t apply there but UF.

I think the average score is only about 80 points higher. Not sure about differences in distribution.

80 points sounds like a lot

Yes and no. It obviously not nothing but I think some people are thinking their 1250s back in the day would be 1500s now which isn’t true.

It isn't the same test. A larger percentage get higher scores because the test has gotten easier.

My 1380 but very high Gpa got into UVA (in state) and College of Wooster with tons of merit.
