Girls Clubs in Bethesda Area

DD is on a middle school team. And we know the 25/26 and 27 team have solid coaches that actually get to know the girls individually. The current 23 team is coached by Haight himself now and he previously coached the 21 team that were very strong (same assistant from 21s is with him on 23s now and she works with goalies from all teams).

Problem is there is no 26 team - as you said a combo team with the 25s. Bad situation to be in moving to high school IMO. The 27s seem like a solid group though. Haight needs to focus more on his club than his tournies...

Team is going to split after this year.

And he has been paying more attention to his club as of late.

I'll believe it when I see it... Too bad too. He lost a lot of quality players the last few years.

You sound bitter and like someone who has left the club. Almost as if you aren't there anymore to know...

Rebels seemed to have problems a few years ago. Are they really improving? Aren't they considered the "B" team to the Renegades? I am not sure I trust that club yet.

What's the latest with the MC - specifically middle school clubs? I notice that they are not even posting rosters on their page anymore. Are they continuing to be in a downward spiral or are things better than last year?

Rebels is Montgomery County. Renegades is Frederick County. There is some overlap as Haight owns both clubs. The problems have left the club - a few of them started their own (WAYS).

MC Elite is trending downward rapidly. Other than their 26 Carolina, they have no consistency with coaching. 23s left for Capital and Rebels. 24s mostly left for Capital. 25s split between Rebels, M&D, and Bethesda, etc. And the list goes on. Having to run sprints every time that they lost was a bit disheartening for 12 year olds (the 25s).

Look, we are newer to the Rebels organization so don't know any of the history. All I know is that we are really happy with our team and our coaches. Making the switch from MC Elite to Rebels was aa good decision for our daughter.

I don't know anything about Rebels but do like the concept of going through high school. I noticed that MC Elite has been very active on social media lately. I don't know if that is a sign that people are leaving and they need kids or if they are genuinely putting interest into the club or what. We are no longer there to know.

This poster seems to have quite the intel. If you had a 2027 daughter....where would you see as the best fit?

I thought I heard there was some type of "re-org" a couple years ago and Rebels was essentially made into the "B" team even though, yet - it is in MoCo and Renegades is in Frederick.

What is causing all the problems with MC?

Our daughter played for MC Elite, starting in middle school. We chose the club because we didn't want to drive far to practices. As others have noted, MC Elite is all over the map as far as coaching quality. With one exception, our daughter's coaches were inexperienced. One was also vindictive, following the tone set by club management. Communication from coaches and club management was shrouded with mystery. And, yes, as PPs have noted, MC Elite often plays in tournaments above their level and ends up being the goat team.

Our daughter's HS team was definitely not a powerhouse. So, with all the above factors combined, DH and I, who like you, OP, were confused by all things lacrosse, worried that we had made the wrong choice for DD, who hoped to play D3 lacrosse in college. Starting the summer after sophomore year, we signed her up to play in a bunch of camps and showcases (honestly, I still don't know what the heck a showcase is). She ended up getting several offers to visit from college coaches and is now playing D3 lacrosse at a school she loves.

If we had it to do over again, I'd still look for a club team that doesn't require a lot of driving. The time we would have spent in the car was spent on doing HW, having a reasonable social life, participating in church youth group, earning money as a babysitter and dogwalker, and getting enough sleep. That meant we had a happy and well-rested girl, who went off to college confident in her ability to do well -- which is exactly what she's done.

That kind of happened with the 24s - mainly due to a number of players leaving for Hero's green - and a lot of that had to do with problem parents. However that is not the case club-wide. Some ages have Rebels as the better team (like the 22s). Others, Renegades has the better team (like the 23s). Just depends on the team.

There are people who love parent coaches and there are people who don't. You do the math.

And when the parent/parent's BFF doesn't get to be the coach anymore...
