I don't tip and I'm proud of it

I agree. No one tips me for doing my job!

I agree. Even the squirrels expect a tip for their appearance.

In times of Covid, I have come to consider tipping generously as a pretty direct and satisfying way of getting money into the hands of people who need it and supporting businesses that I want to be there after times of Covid. So, while it should not replace charitable giving, think of it as another aspect of giving to people who likely need it more than you. And actively lobby your representatives to raise the minimum wage.

Having been a server in restaurants all through college, I have a hard time believing you. I agree that there are much better ways to make your point than taking tips away from servers, but where were you waiting on tables that you didn't make minimum wage?

Waitstaff in DC and many other places don’t get paid minimum wage. Google it.

I used to work in retail without tips. I also worked in a classroom years ago without expecting gifts or “tips” from parents.

You should show your contempt for tipping by never going to a restaurant where tipping is usual and expected. That'll show em!

This. Please don’t stuff the servers who are working for less than $3/hour.

Um ,what? I waited tables for ten years and 2.13 or thereabouts is standard industry practice. Maybe franchises or chains do it differently.

What a stupid remark. Are you paid far below a living wage?

I'd be scared to be a repeat customer then, especially at a restaurant. People remember the high tippers and non tippers and adjust the service accordingly.

Are you actively advocating for laws mandating the elimination of the tipped minimum wage?

Actually, the free market does that. If an employer cannot hire willing workers, (s)he will raise the wage.

DC Area waitstaff make $2.13/hr. Other parts of the country like CA make more. Everyone in CA tipped 15% when I was growing up because they made more/hr.

You do you but I would avoid going out for a meal with you. Nothing worse than being with a cheapskate that won’t put down an adequate tip.

Servers in many, many places make $2.13 an hour.

That's right. TWO DOLLARS AND THIRTEEN CENTS for a whole hour of work.

Restaurants can get away with this because they say that with tips they can make minimum wage. Sadly, sometimes you don't end up making minimum wage because of assholes like you.
