There are other ways to advocate for a living wage without being a cheap skate.

I tip generously when we go out to eat at a restaurant. I avoid most takeout places and food delivery though. It just isn't worth all the extra fees/tips/costs, especially when I can whip up a pretty good meal at home.

Realize that waitstaff make $2.13 an hour if you don’t tip. Unless your Mackenzie Bezos, your move is just shortchanging poor people everywhere.

I’m gonna guess you’ve never waited tables either. Try it. I bet you wouldn’t last a week.

This is a lie. Please stop perpetuating it. If someone who makes a tipped wage doesn't earn the equivalent of minimum wage during their shift, the employer is legally required to make up the difference.

Oh, please. You are so naive. In reality, if you press the issue, they either fire you ("at will") or cut your hours. They know servers can't afford to sue them.

Grow up.

That doesn't change the FACTS, and you all should stop trying to use it as a cudgel to guilt people into tipping you as if it's required. Focus your energy on the person ACTUALLY screwing you!

And who is that person? Not the server. But you're screwing them when you don't tip.

Anonymous wrote:Omg I just started doing this a couple years ago and it’s so liberating!! I only tip at a sit down restaurant. Last week I drove to Cheesecake Factory for pick up and didn’t tip anything. Did it again at another restaurant. I’ve never tipped anyone on Uber eats or instacart. Everyone else on here blabs about how much they tip like it’s some badge. Perfect!! You can subsidize my zero tips!! I tip at a sit down restaurant 20% and my hair/nail salon but thats it.

Super cheap POS. Even your tips when you tip suck, especially given your skinflint nature o/wise. Eeeuuuuw.

They eat at The Cheesecake Factory ewwwwwww

OP here, I can understand why this has been met with outrage and perhaps I need to evaluate my beliefs on tipping going forward.

Well done, OP! The peanut gallery of DCUM for the win.

I didn't mean to come across as a troll, I legitimately felt this was the best course of action as to bring about change towards a living wage.

I'll always be an activist for a living wage in America, but I will just have to go about it a more proactive route rather than hurting others.

I was always under the impression that if I didn't tip most restaurants either shared pooled tips at the end of the night or covered their employees directly. I was wrong and admit it.
