Shall we also get rid of the arts?

Whether you like it or not, those than have perform in sports and arts are more accomplished than most of the rest of the Ivy grads. (all but the top 5%)

IKR? so much more accomplished then most of the rest.

agree. at least cut back. I did it. while so many are exploring new things, the athletes are stuck doing the same old same old that most have been at for a dozen years.

I appreciate it helps gets access to the education for some reason but then they don't even get to take full advantage of their time at the institution because they are committed to so many hours for sports. makes little sense.

UVM, Miami Ohio, and UVA are definitely all in the same tier. Not sure why people have an issue with this.

Vernacular. How does it work? Wish we knew!

Whoa. I didn’t know this. And I say “public ivy” all the time in reference to UVA, Michigan, UT Austin, Cal, Minnesota, and possibly UNC. But now that I’ve read this post I will definitely stop saying that. Thanks OP!

UT Austin, UNC??? are you kidding me?? Please!

He snuck Minnesota in there too.

Agreed. The D1 teams could all transition easily to club teams.

But, even as is, sports in the Ivy League aren't as all-consuming as they are in the big flagship state schools.

What is UVM?

U of Vermont

It's VM rather than VT because its the acronym for Green Mountain in Latin

Dartmouth just tried to cut 5 sports and ended up walking it back a few months later and the AD is now 'retiring'. They were even going to close down the golf course, not sure if that now stays open.

Honestly who cares how schools are grouped? The Ivy League has meaning to many people beyond a sports league. Nothing wrong with calling a group of top state schools public Ivies. Having attended an Ivy, and having had a kid who attended a top flagship school which is, dare I say, a public Ivy, I can assure you we both received top notch educations.

I'd be 100% for that.

Chill, OP. We know what people mean.

Nothing more arrogant than a poster signing off like this. It gives you no more authority to speak on this than anyone else. Get bent.

Being from the school doesn't confer some level of weigh to opinions regarding the school?

University of Vermont, and it is not as selective as UVA. Lovely school, great location, but not as selective as UVA.

Well, compare UT in engineering, computer science, science, to UVA. Also a top undergraduate business school.

I’d take UNC over Cornell any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
