A store salesperson told FOX 5 that their security cameras captured the thieves stealing a Levo SL Carbon eBike worth $8,000 and a Levo Expert Carbon bike worth $11,000 from their store in the 4800 block of Wisconsin Avenue around noon on Thursday.

So, a new e-bike can cost $8,000.

In contrast, the estimated average transaction price for a light vehicle in the United States (according to Kelley Blue Book) was $38,378 in July 2020.

In other words, you can buy almost 5 new e-bikes for the same money as 1 new light vehicle.

We would need 5 to be able to transport my family.

The mic has officially been dropped.

If you can afford a $8,000 bike you don’t need to pedal it to work unless you just want to.

"it's just property crime-insurance will pay". Isn't that always the answer in DC?

Newsflash--insurance is us, the consumers.

Electric bikes can be expensive, but the ones I’ve looked at are more like $2k-$5k. And you do know that most bikes are much, much less expensive right?

We are a one car family, DH commutes by bike, but we have looked into an e cargo bike to have. It would be much cheaper than a new car.

I was joking.

My bad.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell around here.

Am I about to ask any douche bag bicyclist (that is a misnomer, any bicyclist with a bike that expensive is a douche bag and danger to all of us in traffic) if they stole and start an amber bike alert?

How is the bike a danger to you in a car? In the one bike accident I got into (an Uber driver hit me while I was in a bike lane), there was minor damage to his side mirror, and he was totally fine.

I have been hit (while standing still at a stop light) twice by bikes in Georgetown. Just sitting in an intersection waiting for traffic to start moving and the bike runs the red light and drives directly into my car. Once he crashed into the hood. And once into the drivers side door. The accident to the front quarter panel the cyclist rolled over the hood. Only real damage to car was a broken side turn indicator ($250 to be replaced). Cyclist got up apologizing profusely. Policeman who watched the hole thing made the cyclist sit down and take a break as he had hit his head pretty hard on the road. Second accident at the exact same intersection (near Key Bridge) Bike pedaled straight through red light and into my door. Bicyclist bounced off. Bike was totaled. $3000 paint job required to door.

I just honk at bikes now. Constantly. They just are not paying attention. And these electric bikes are traveling much faster than cars.

A biker threw water from his water bottle in my husbands face at an intersection (through car window). A police officer was right behind - whoops. There is a lot of assault in cars by bikers in DC.

OP is making a point about the uptick in crime. Seems crystal clear.

Not to me! Some bikes got stolen, surely there are more outrageous criminal acts happening? But, wait, dcum should know that their fav fancy bike shop got two bikes stolen and that they cost more than most people can afford to pay for a car in many parts of DC? Where is my daily dose of Anacostia crime reporting on dcum? Not in sight!

Oh my goodness, someone posted a thread that didn't appeal you you personally. What a tough blow. You going to be okay?

You anti-bike people are some combination of insane/pathetically stupid, BTW...

You don’t understand what misnomer means and you have the writing skills of a six year old.

Nothing anti bike here. I think some people were just surprised that there are bikes on DC streets that cost more than cars.

These thieves obviously knew which bikes they were taking.
