I don't bike commute so I did not know that bikes now cost as much as cars but here you have it in the never ending uptick in NW DC property crime.

A store salesperson told FOX 5 that their security cameras captured the thieves stealing a Levo SL Carbon eBike worth $8,000 and a Levo Expert Carbon bike worth $11,000 from their store in the 4800 block of Wisconsin Avenue around noon on Thursday.

I wish lightweight bikes were more affordable. They give such better rides!

A DC shop should hold a DL or credit card to test ride bikes of such value.

And why is this worthy of a post here? Do they have insurance for their shop?
Am I about to ask any douche bag bicyclist (that is a misnomer, any bicyclist with a bike that expensive is a douche bag and danger to all of us in traffic) if they stole and start an amber bike alert?

And why is this in DC and metro politics? WTH! How bored are you?

No. Not any.

But sadly, it's probably north of 90%.

OP is making a point about the uptick in crime. Seems crystal clear.

Not to me! Some bikes got stolen, surely there are more outrageous criminal acts happening? But, wait, dcum should know that their fav fancy bike shop got two bikes stolen and that they cost more than most people can afford to pay for a car in many parts of DC? Where is my daily dose of Anacostia crime reporting on dcum? Not in sight!

Most bike shops do. But it's not clear from the article that the thieves even had permission for a "test ride".

A store salesperson told FOX 5 that their security cameras captured the thieves stealing a Levo SL Carbon eBike worth $8,000 and a Levo Expert Carbon bike worth $11,000 from their store in the 4800 block of Wisconsin Avenue around noon on Thursday.

So, a new e-bike can cost $8,000.

In contrast, the estimated average transaction price for a light vehicle in the United States (according to Kelley Blue Book) was $38,378 in July 2020.

In other words, you can buy almost 5 new e-bikes for the same money as 1 new light vehicle.

Then it's a good thing that you can buy a cargo e-bike for $1,500, isn't it? That's $7,500 total for FIVE e-bikes - $500 less than the 1 fancy $8,000 e-bike, and one-fifth the price of the estimated average cost of 1 new vehicle. Yay!

That's a shame. Someone could have used those bikes to drive to work.
