I know a Harry Johnson and once I pointed out that his name is funny and he had no idea what I was talking about, which I also found funny. Made me wonder if that is a regionalism? Or maybe whether you get the joke depends on how old you are.

You need to watch the initials, too.
Some friends of mine almost had the kid's initials be A-S-S

Consider the nickname, too.

Hugh Jardon
Rusty Tom Bohne
Richard Nibbler

the list goes on.

Yeah, I think he probably knew and was pretending not to because you were acting like an ass.

What’s wrong with Harry Johnson? Seems plenty of Harry Johnsons when I google.

It sounds just like Hairy Johnson. Basically like naming your kid Hairy Penis.

Only if you are 12.

Yes but there is a good chance that your child and their friends will be 12 at some point. I don't think Johnson is used as much by young people these days so I think its possible that this one might not be an issue. Lots of kids are resilient enough to not be phased by teasing over names, but sometimes in the wrong circumstance with a particularly vile bully it can be pretty rough and I think it's best to help set kids up for success wherever we can.

I could be wrong, but I really don't think he knew. I wasn't laughing at his name, I just pointed it out, kind of in an - "Did that cause you a problem when you were a kid, kind of way."

Still a bad name. NP

Your immature opinion. Nothing wrong with it and i am not named harry johnson

Holy cow. The REASON it is a bad name is because there are immature people about there. 99% of people have a shred of immaturity in them.

Wow you are dense.

I would think strongly before naming a child those names.

So, if you give birth to a 13 year old you're safe.

Otherwise, if you're giving birth to a child who will one day be 12, in a class with 12 year olds, this isn't the greatest choice.

I had a list of first names that I liked and then married a man whose last name rhymed with several of them. So, we didn't use those.

I actually knew a guy named that. He handled it pretty well.

Not exactly the same, but I don't like rhyming names.

So, if your last name ends in -er or -or, no kid names that end in -r. (Peter Carter)

Same if your last name ends with -n or ends with the "ee" sound. (Jackson Hoffman or Katie Brody).

I also think if you have a long last name, first names should be shorter and vice versa.
