Vessel sinks

I HATE the look of them - passé and ugly!

This designer kept talking about how the sink and fixtures were “like jewelry” for the bathroom. It’s a classic form over function choice. Though they are so impractical that it makes them ugly to me.

Agree with PP that they are at least less offensive in a powder room where the sole purpose of the sink is to wash hands. But even there I’d prefer a pedestal. I don’t even like vessel sinks in restaurant bathrooms![/quote

I don't care for 98% of vessel sinks, although I'm sure there are a few in powder rooms that are ok. I really hate pedestal sinks. No, they don't make your room look bigger, they show the plumbing always, and they look cheap. Just...ugh. (Also--can we just stop with the beadboard? So dated and trite)

We have pedestal sinks in our master and power room, and I can't stand them. Would much rather have a vanity to store toilet paper, toilet brush, etc.

Vessel sinks look like a total hassle to keep clean. They look neat in commercial spaces where they are cleaned daily, but having to clean inside and out just seems annoying.

Hate. I’m short and I can’t reach into many of them.

I wouldn't want either a vessel sink or a pedestal sink in a regular bathroom because I want counter space and storage. But in a powder room where you just need a little sink in the corner for hand washing, I actually like a pedestal sink if done well (I hate all vessels sinks).

I'm particularly fond of a classic pedestal in a bathroom with dark walls and vintage tile, with kind of ornate fixtures. Kind of like this:

We had a sink like that in our old house. I hated it because of all the edges and corners -- they gathered grime and sucked to wipe down.

I saw one pedestal sink that I liked once. It was perched on an antique dresser in a minuscule powder room. I typically hate them, but the owners had gotten the proportions just right.

I have three in my house. I love them. I installed them on top of antique washstands. They have that washbowl look, which I wanted. I don't have any problem cleaning them or anything. And they're no messier than regular sinks. They are really great. I don't know why people hate them. I don't. My house is very small, and they were the best solution.

I historically hated these - hate the look, trend-factor, utility.

The house we bought has a pair in the master bath, and i actually like them in practice. The counter is regular counter height, and so the sinks are probably 8 inches higher than they'd otherwise be. DH is tall and really likes that. I'm average at 5'4", but i wash my face in the sink every day and i really like not having to bend over so far. Our bowls are big and don't tend to splash anymore than a regular sink.

So yes, i think they kind of look dumb and cleaning is a pain - but we have a cleaner, so a little bit of "not my problem". But I actually like using them.

About 10 yrs ago we were about to redo a powder room in our previous home. We picked a vessel sink. H mentioned to MIL in a phone conversation, and MIL had a very strong, negative reaction to it. At that point, I felt like we had no choice but to proceed with it lest it gave her the impression that her opinion could sway us and she may impart more unsolicited advice. So we put in a vessel sink. It worked ok for the space, but definitely felt trendy and likely won't age well.

Why do the light fixture and the mirror and the faucet all have different finishes aaaaaaaargh

Topic? I also hate vessel sinks.

To add visual interest. You’re not supposed to match everything.

I had to come on here because I’ve always been Meh about vessel sinks but my DH has fallen in love with the rectangular drop in looking ones. It’s growing on me but will I love them long term? Most people hate them.

They were trendy for a hot minute. My husband despises them and wouldn’t even discuss them for our current master bath Reno. Probably for the best-I think a normal vanity is timeless

We have a pedestal sink in our powder room and I like it. It’s weird long narrow powder room, so it fits the space best. What was in there when we moved in was just bizarre-a sink in a powder room with this long but narrow unusable counter space that came towards the door.

I hate all vessel and pedestal sinks. Why would you not put storage in a bathroom like in a regular vanity?

Vessel are worse than pedestal but they are both bad.
