OP here. After watching this episode, I am convinced they are something designers talk people into because they like the opportunity to select a decorative vessel sink instead a more utilitarian sink. This designer kept talking about how the sink and fixtures were “like jewelry” for the bathroom. It’s a classic form over function choice. Though they are so impractical that it makes them ugly to me. Agree with PP that they are at least less offensive in a powder room where the sole purpose of the sink is to wash hands. But even there I’d prefer a pedestal. I don’t even like vessel sinks in restaurant bathrooms![/quote I don't care for 98% of vessel sinks, although I'm sure there are a few in powder rooms that are ok. I really hate pedestal sinks. No, they don't make your room look bigger, they show the plumbing always, and they look cheap. Just...ugh. (Also--can we just stop with the beadboard? So dated and trite)
We had a sink like that in our old house. I hated it because of all the edges and corners -- they gathered grime and sucked to wipe down.
