I hate them. These are those sinks that sit on top of the counter like a bowl.
I’m watching the current season of This Old House and they are doing a vessel sink in the master bathroom. Whyyyyyyyyy? They are weird looking, they eat up counter space, and they create extra surfaces to clean. I don’t get it. Does anyone like these? I thought the trend had passed, but maybe I’m missing something great about them? |
| I don't like a vessel sink. |
| I came to this thread based on the title alone in most recent to warn anyone away. The prior owners of our house put them in master bath and I hate them. Finally going to get rid of them after this covid situation when we're super comfortable having people in the house. |
| I am short and I hate them. Also terrible for kids. |
| I love them in a powder room. Not practical for a bathroom. |

OP here. After watching this episode, I am convinced they are something designers talk people into because they like the opportunity to select a decorative vessel sink instead a more utilitarian sink. This designer kept talking about how the sink and fixtures were “like jewelry” for the bathroom. It’s a classic form over function choice. Though they are so impractical that it makes them ugly to me.
Agree with PP that they are at least less offensive in a powder room where the sole purpose of the sink is to wash hands. But even there I’d prefer a pedestal. I don’t even like vessel sinks in restaurant bathrooms! |

They spill all over, I keep hitting my hand on them...
Yeah, I hate them, too. |
| My daughter was about seven and she was “hired” to cat sit for our neighbor so of course I went with her to make sure it went okay. She calls out from the bathroom “mom I can’t fill the water bowl they don’t have a sink?” I’m like “huh?” She says “yeah they don’t have a sink just a bowl”. It was obviously a vessel sink and I showed her how to use it but I thought it was hilarious |
| Easy to change. That’s the best thing about finding them in a house I’m going to buy. |
|
They’re awful. Awful.
That said, I’m doing one lol. Because I want to use an old cabinet as a vanity in our powder room and it’s a little low. But the vessel sink has straight sides. |
| Hate |
Yes to both of these! Water everywhere and banging my rings always. |
| And why would anyone want to clean the inside AND outside of a sink! |
I would have never picked it out myself, but the previous owner put one in our powder room, and it’s really grown on me. It’s a simple pale jade-colored porcelain bowl, and it adds a pop of color to the room. I haven’t found it hard to clean at all. It’s deep enough that water doesn’t splash out. I would hate such a thing in my master bath, though. |
| Vessel sinks make the sink/countertop look smaller. Not sure why. |
