Can you rank the following?
A. Liberty
B. Snowshoe
C. WIsp
D. Wintergreen
E. Massanutten
F. Bryce
G. Camelback
H. Other

I have 10 and 12 to boys who are intermediate skiiers who have been skiing for about 5 years.

Are you looking for a weekend away or a day trip?

Liberty and whitetail are close if you are looking for a day trip. I prefer whitetail, my kids like liberty for the terrain park. Lift lines in the front of the mountain are longer at liberty.
Massanutten and Bryce are tinny, kids will be bored quickly.

Snowshoe- Biggest of the bunch. if you are looking to go this season good luck getting a weekend lift tickets. They are sold out most weekend.

Op here. We decided on snowshoe and realized no weekend lift tickets are available like you said.

I guess it isn’t even about what is best anymore. Massanutten also has no weekend availability.

Do any of these places have weekend availability?

Try Timberline/Canaan for the weekend trip. Cute area and 2 ski resorts across from each other. Closer then Snowshoe and they just invested 10m to reopen Timberline

+1. We were just there over MLK weekend. So fun. They got a ton of snow recently too.

Liberty and whitetail have weekend availability just be sure to book a week in advance. Also be sure to arrive early if you need to rent. Rental lines have been long this season so get there right when they open.

I like Canaan and Wisp for localish skiing. Better conditions than Liberty and Whitetail and much less crowded.

They, are all icy. It's east coast.

OP here. We just booked a house at deep creek in February and plan to ski at WISP. This will be our first time there.

We skied at Wisp for many years but it seems like they've struggled to get the mountain fully open the past few years. Hopefully they can get more of their slopes open by February. I don't know if they don't want to make snow or if they don't have the staff to work the lifts but they still haven't gotten the East Ridge Trails open and they just recently got some of the North Camp trails open. Lines have been long. Bring your own food and plan to use your car as a base (unless you are ski-in/ski-out). If your kids are intermediate skiers, a weekend will be long enough. I'm an intermediate skiier anywhere else but I ski the black slopes at Wisp (I don't think any of them are open right now). You'll enjoy it but its small and not much of a challenge for intermediate skiers. It does get icy so be prepared for that. Plan to bring your food. There isn't much out there, even for carry out.

We just came back from Snowshoe today. We skied there on Friday and while conditions were good and the mountain was 100% open (except the glades), lines were too long and way too many people weren't wearing masks or weren't wearing them properly. The staff tried to tell people to put their masks on and many people just ignored them. We did go over to Silver Creek to ski on Saturday and enjoyed it more than we expected. Yes, it is smaller but we never waited in line for a lift, the slopes were in good condition, and there was a good variety of slopes. In the end I doubt we will go back to Snowshoe. The drive is a PIA and we'd rather drive a couple of extra hours to NY/New England. If we ski again in WV, we will go back to Timberline/Canaan now that Timberline has reopened.

No on is checking and I can guarantee no one is testing. Parking lots are backed with DC, MD and VA plates every weekend.

We have friends who went skiing in PA last weekend and they had to get tested. Resort wouldn't let them in without proof of recent negative tests.

Snowshoe by far is the best of them. They get much more snow than the others and less crowded

Where did they go skiing and were they staying overnight at resort lodging?

For Whitetail and Liberty they are most definitely not checking just to ski for the day. Liberty may be checking if you are staying in their hotel.

You are kidding right?

Snowshoe has been packed this season and lift tickets are sold out for every weekend.

That doesn't mean it is packed, it means they have sold the number of tickets allowed.

When does snowshoe snowing typically end? First week of March would be too late?

We did snowboarding at Camelback last week. Absolutely no testing or requirements.

How were the lift lines at Timberline/Canaan recently? We're worried since it's only those 2 main lifts right at the bottom - all the trails seem to congregate right at those 2 lifts. We were worried that lift lines would be horrendous.

The Timberline website didn’t seem clear with available lift tickets.
