I’d like to be skinny for once in my life

You sound like one of my friends who is 140 lbs and repeatedly complains about it to me... a person who is twice her weight.

When I go to the gym 4 days a week, I don't want to go with her because my weight struggles and her struggles are not the same.

I went pescatarian along with no dairy/processed sugars/processed carbs, and I lost weight very quickly. I was mostly eating vegetables, fruits, eggs, and fish which helped.

Starve yourself. Eat little to nothing.

Barring that ridiculousness, learn to be happy with yourself.

Yeah, water weight. Fat loss is not guaranteed without tracking calories.

160 pounds to 130 pounds.
Is that water weight?
On Maintenance right now.
People on Keto don’t count calories.

NP here. I agree that keto is a great way to lose real weight, but it’s most dramatically effective for people whose diets were carb heavy before (and I don’t mean bad carbs or whatever, I also mean people who eat steel cut oatmeal for breakfast and brown rice at lunch and rye bread with dinner).

It dramatically reduces your appetite so although you’re eating high calorie meals, you end up eating fewer calories overall because you’re not driven to eat as much — or as often, which in turn keeps your blood sugar levels lower for longer, the same secret that makes intermittent fasting so effective for weight loss and mood.

At this point, with all the studies in the NEJM etc showing that ketosis is a really good state to be in for cancer prevention and that sugar is bad for you and low carb diets are actually really healthy for you, I roll my eyes at naysayers in the same way I roll my eyes at anti vaxxers.

Anyway, been holding steady at a healthy BMI since i first tried keto in 2007!

I know people carry their weight differently but honestly you are slim. I'm a smidge under 5'9" and when I weighed 150 my face looked really bad -- I looked great in a dress but bad in headshots. Too skinny for my build.

I'm currently overweight but a strong 170 is my goal.

As a 50 something woman who is perpetually trying to lose 10 lbs I feel like what the op is really wanting is to not just be at her high school weight but to have her high school body. Losing weight isn’t going to make the boobs/butt perky, the stomach flat, it isn’t going to reduce the wrinkles or smooth the skin. Isn’t that what the real goal is behind these “skinny” postings. Lose the weight if you can but the results aren’t going to be what you want.

I am the PP to whom you responded and I did keto for a while. I would not have lost weight without tracking. Yes, it suppresses hunger but you can still easily overeat and I definitely would without tracking. I have no real issue with keto itself. I am just bothered by people pushing it (or any other approach that happened to work for them) as a magic bullet. Losing weight is all about a calories deficit. The best way to achieve and sustain it for a long enough time is very individual.

Very good points.

I’m the 5’8” 150 pp. my face is way better at 140. I am small boned and thin framed with smaller features but defined cheekbones. Honestly the only reason I even think about losing weight is because I want my face back (and more energy). You must be blessed with bigger features (eyes, lips, jaw?). Doesn’t change the overall feedback though that 150 at 5’8” is slim though not “skinny.”

Anonymous wrote:Why do you want to be slim? Really ask yourself that question. You are not crazy overweight now and you might realize once you become really slim that it is not as satisfying as you hoped. If you really want to go that route, diet in a smart way. Moderate deficit + weightlifting. At 50+ you certainly do not want to risk losing any muscle mass.

5 ‘8” and 155 is not overweight. It’s a normal range BMI

Lift weights, row and move more throughout the day. You're looking at a lot a salad, quinoa, etc without as much leeway for desserts or anything carb/sugar heavy. Running and pilates, too.

Almost anyone can starve themselves down. Don't. Focus on being fit and athletic and the change in lifestyle will give you the results you are looking for without being unhealthy. Healthy slim people move a lot/walk and watch their intake and are thoughtful about the size & frequency of their indulgences.

Actually being skinny makes you look older.

Sounds like you were skinny for a long time in your life, and you are thin-to-normal now.

If that is your baseline at 50, why would you want to feel starving or tortured just to wear a slightly smaller size and see more wrinkles in your face?
