The thing about this movement is that they are explicitly racist (see the "white men invented 99% of all things in society" PP) and then throw around statistics about how hard *men* have it to support their position.
If you parse out the worrisome stats about men when it comes to graduation, incarceration, early death, basically all of their talking points -- they're trying to piggyback off the trauma of men of color (by and large black, but not exclusively) to support the statement that white men have it the worst, and then turn around and spout racist nonsense about how only white men are deserving. It's all very "both sides of the mouth" and doesn't really deserve to be addressed as an intellectual endeavor. |

1. the majority of our political leaders are white males
2. the majority of our corporate leaders are white males 3. white males make more than females, of any group What exactly are these white males whining about now? I agree with the PPs.. this is about the fact that white males have historically not had to compete as much with women and minorities, and now the do, and they don't like it. |
Why do men have so much more wealth than women? Why are women (and children) so much more likely to wind up in poverty compared to men? Why do men hold more than 50% of Congressional seats when they make up less than half of the population? Why has there never been a female President? Why are women so much more likely to die from domestic violence than men? Why are so many more women the victim of sexual assault compared to men? Why are there so many missing girls and women in the world? Why are the top companies and firms run by men? Why have four times as many women dropped out of the work force compared to men during the pandemic? |
| Why did you assume your husband’s gender? |
If a male majors in biology at a slac, he'd have an advantage. |
So: The proportion of white men running things still, by far, exceeds their percentage of the population. Although some things have shifted very slowly over the last few decades. What did I miss here? I will go back and read through this carefully, but this article seems to show that white men are continuing to do very well when it comes to power and rewards. Which doesn't mean that ALL white men will do well, but it does mean that white men do well in ways that far exceed their percentage of the population. |
| Female here I can’t speak to other things but I can definitely say my young son is not seeing boys on tv being role models. Everything is geared toward girls now. Characters being changed to female all the time. It’s ridiculous to swing so far to the other side so all I can show my son is old tv shows or movies with a boy lead. |
None of these articles really address the points that OP made though. Two of the articles talk about "males". Unless you want to assume that "males" only means "white males", again, a bit of data that specifically addresses the original points would be great. The article about campuses notes that the numbers of women on campuses will exceed the number of men. It then goes on to list statistics for fields of study that are traditionally female dominated and historically UNDERPAID. I may be reading this wrong, but the OP's list of complaints don't seem to be focused on the inability of white men to become social workers. Boys, historically, have been more vulnerable from birth to multiple risk factors. But none of those things link clearly with the original list of complaints. |
If you are PP, I posted the NYT link in agreement with you lol |
Seriously? My non-white DD rarely sees kids who like her on TV. However, white boys are tv/movie heroes all the time! |
| ^^who look like her |
They have to compete a bit more than they did in the past, and it's not automatic their sons will have more privilege. I'm a white woman who went to private school, and many of my white middle aged male former classmates, who inherited their businesses from their daddy, express these same sentiments. There are other, poorer, white men who do feel like they have never had the "power" that was promised to them, or that others say they have. Most of the people who currently have power in our country are white and male, with just a few notable exceptions. |
my Asian kids hardly see anyone who are like them on tv. |
Yes, I am. Thank you! I did not realize that your intention was to agree with me -- so I was VERY surprised when the article you posted seemed to support my sense of things re: current stats. Thanks much!

Toxic masculinity is a thing. Everyone who thinks this way has a character defect and is a bad person. |
