What about canned salmon for dogs, as in Purina or whatever? Doesn't say where they get it. Plus, they get fish oil, too.

OP here. I do not think you are being realistic at all. This is not about measurable outcome in any given moment. This is about the sheer concentrations in this specific food being astronomically worse than wild fish, smaller wild caught fish AND beef or chicken.

Im not sharing a "thought" for you to appreciate. This is merely to inform you that wild caught and farm raised salmon are radically different in ways that are readily measured, and have been. If you want to eat a very toxic food because thats what is realistic for you, I get it. But just understand that you are talking about realistic in a general sense- its about your choice.

OP here, true that is another problem. But doxins and certain other chemicals build up in human tissue in specific ways that are bad. The good answer is probably to just eat any of this very rarely if at all?

I'm curious how you doing a possibly destructive and very unhealthy behavior is in any way an own on OP.

It would be like someone posting an article about smoking causing cancer and someone posting, "I appreciate the thought OP but I smoke a pack of cigarettes every day." Okay? You deciding to perpetuate unhealthy behavior is a reflection on you, not OP or the facts she presented.

OP here. Thats for chiming in.....I think the poster you referenced is not so much making this about me as much as reflecting the general fatigue probably so many of us feel at finding out yet another thing we enjoy is bad for us.

But this is really much more than that. This is the equivelant of finding out the cigarette industry manipulated nictotine levels and hid the facts their own scientists knew about specific damage from their additives. We all know smoking is bad, but the how and the WHY is far more relevant because it reflects that we cannot trust industry, period.

In particular the food industry has loopholes that allow things to happen that should not. The toxin present in the feed for farmed fish is not supposed to be in the feed of ANY animal.

As a breast cancer survivor, I took note of the portion where they were advising women to NOT EAT SALMON to reduce their breast cancer recurrence risk because basically the old omega 3's in salmon that used to be good for us all are far eclipsed by the damage done to us from the other things.

Fish farming practices globally are BAD NEWS but where you find big money like in big fish such as salmon, its far worse than you know.

What am I missing - last I checked most farm raised salmon around here (I assume Op is posting from DC area) is Atlantic farm raised. I dont think I've ever really seen Norwegian farm raised here - why would we with the Atlantic a pebble's throw away?

FWIW, dh buys one if those 2lbers of farm raised salmon each week from Costco and eats it throughout the week.

The tradeoff it has helped tremendously with his diet and RA.

Plus, I find there are fear mongering stories with just about every food out there.

Aren't most farm-raised fish netted off in the ocean/sea? In other words, I don't think they'd have less microplastic exposure. Also, farmed fish are eating wild caught fish.

I think it's okay to eat some fish, like trout and maybe cod.

Probably the best option is grass fed meat.
