| I know a woman in CA who got stock paying alimony after she divorced her husband for cheating on her. They had made around the same amount earlier in their marriage as CPAs but then he went to law school using marital assets and became a local prosecutor. So she put him through law school, he got a lower paying job, he cheated on her, and she wound up paying alimony |
| Yes, I’m a woman paying alimony to my ex husband. He was underemployed, and I wanted him out of my future earnings, so we agreed to it. 12 years. |
I probably would have been orders to pay if my ex hadn’t asked waived his right to it. He was dumb, thankfully. |
| It’s typically for a set period of time. See if you can give him a lump sum and never deal with alimony again. |
Unless you live in CA and were married a full decade. Then you get to pay it "for life" |
Oh and her ex was cheating on her with a woman in every town (he worked and traveled for the FAA). But the var to prove it is too high and doesn't impact alimony. |
| Every time a man is awarded alimony, an angel gets her wings. |
You don’t always have to pay it for life. I received a meager amount for two years, and you can negotiate anything outside of the court. I know a couple of people (VA, MD) who didn’t have a judge decide for them, one of them was a nasty divorce and they were still able to settle out of court. |
In CA? How long were you married? |
| OP here. I would probably be stuck paying a significant amount of alimony due to our particular situation. So now I feel even more ridiculous for marrying this man since I am better off staying married and being unhappy. |
What about if he waives his rights in CA? Will I still be forced to, DCUM lawyers? |
| Stop trying to ge free kegsk advice. We’ve had the women’s movement. Equality means having to pay spousal support when the ław requires. Suck it up cupcake. |
| What's good for the goose is good for the gander. |
How long were you married, how long was he un/underemployed, what state? |
You sound angry. Therapy may help with that. |
