| If you are a woman who either earned more or was the sole income earner in the marriage, were you ordered to pay alimony? |
| My sister was married for 35 years when her DH left her. She did not get alimony even though IMO she deserved it. Alimony is not status quo in many states. Doubt a women would have to pay alimony to a man but can't say for sure. |
| I was not ordered to pay alimony but it was part of our settlement |
This is both a relief and worrisome because I could see my husband being petty just to stop me from getting a divorce. |
If the law in your state allows for alimony, he will get alimony. I certainly deserved alimony after working so hard and putting up with a misbehaving woman for so long. |
| I'm a divorced lesbian mom and I know a number of women who are paying alimony some of them are sole earners and some higher earners-it really depends on your state. I would suggest doing a consult with a lawyer just to get a sense of what you can expect. |
| I've seen it (and think it is entirely appropriate) when one partner is a SAHP by mutual decision. If you both decided it would be best for the other parent to stay at home, and that person sacrificed their career development, then spousal support equal to the number of years out of the workforce seems appropriate, no matter the gender of the parent. |
Definitely talk to a lawyer. You might be able to provide a larger share of assets instead of a monthly maintenance. |
Does the law say only men can pay alimony? |
| Of course, a friend had to do this in Virginia. And her ex had a dang job and they had no kids. Stupid. |
The law says a lot of things that don’t necessarily equate to what happens in reality. For example, the law says an employer can’t discriminate against people who are pregnant, yet it still happens. |
OG PP here. Definitely talk to a lawyer. There are different options. For example, I paid a lump sum alimony to get him out of my life, and in the long run out would have been cheaper |
So that’s a no? |
| DH's ex paid him alimony until he married me. |
She is probably quite a fan of you! |
