I feel like this is an SES thing. I too don’t know any bad millennials but I know they exist. A few coworkers kids haven’t moved out or gotten jobs. |
It me. I’m the loser millennial! Typing this from the room in my parent’s house that I live in. |
I'm a middling millennial. I'm well educated, in a respectable mid-career job with a small house and two kids. I'm not the most successful person in my field nationally and I'm not wealthy enough to live in DC or the close in suburbs. I'm not health obsessed, nor am I obese and completely out of shape. Not sure what to tell you, OP, some of us are just normal people. |
I am a boss who has had plenty of millennials work for me who think they work hard, but don’t realize that they don’t actually put in enough time to do really good work. If you have time for productive hobbies or decorating your home obsessively, you are probably not impressing me with your work ethic. |
I’m glad you’re not my boss. I have time for hobbies and am doing extremely well in work — I’ve been promoted several times in recent years. |
Wow. I don't have time for productive hobbies or decorating obsessively in my free time outside of work because I have very young children. Wonder what you think of people like me? Also glad you're not my bkss so i don't have to find out. |
DC is full of strivers. Of course you don’t know losers. |
The older millennial hired 6 months ago in my department has some of the above attributes, but the one affecting her most in the workplace is not ever putting down her phone. Daily meeting- typing on phone. Department meeting discussing her clients- typing on phone. Then asks "who are we talking about?" because she is not paying attention. She has been told to put the phone away, and does not. Completely unprofessional. Embarrassing. |
Oh yes, because none of us know Boomers who are addicted to their phones. ![]() |
Sorry OP. 32, currently living with my parents, not health obsessed or driven with my career. Oh well. |
|
I am PP, and no, I don't know any. I'm Gen X and I don't bring my phone to meetings, because it's rude. No one is talking about boomers. |
I am 34. I am a supervisory gs-15, striving for an SES. I have two kids, and a 15 DH. life is busy but I am used to succeeding. |
Two attorneys? |
I am a hiring manager and try not to hire millennials anymore. Too many have tried to pull the “I have a disability” card as an excuse for poor performance. They grew up thinking they were abnormal if they DIDN’T have a disability, so I’m guessing they either faked one or convinced themselves they had one. Then they were coddled by teachers and parents and expect the same in the workplace. Wrong. I just fire them now. Don’t get me wrong, people with legitimate disabilities will receive whatever accommodations they request. But not one of them has been able to prove whatever disability they are claiming. They are just a PITA to deal with.
Not sure if that meets your loser definition, but that has been my experience (far too many times). |
