+1. Thank goodness at least one school system is prioritizing in person learning! The metrics are ridiculous - no need for them. Just go with the original phases the governor gave us. We are in phase 3, schools should be open with the mitigation’s provided by Virginia. |
Thank you!! Phase 3 = hybrid for all grades. It’s not that hard. |
| Fantastic news! I’m rooting for their success so that more of us eventually get this option. |
| My kid and the teacher are so excited! |
|
When the outbreaks happen exponentially will they really wait for their incongruent and non-scientific metrics to be met or allow for more people contracting the virus?
The optics are bad and people in this area have time and money to file lawsuits. |
Please read the news. You are making yourself really nervous for no reason. |
oh right- bc we have seen exponential outbreaks in this area from private schools opening? We have seen exponential outbreaks across the country from schools opening? no wait THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. Schools need to OPEN NOW. |
FCPS - over 180K students LCPS - over 83k students Privates - not even a worthy sample |
For the most part I think FCPS and others missed the good window to get kids back. And it can go either way. Could be enough spread to go back to virtual or things can keep being stable here. It’s varied across the country with schools going virtual and back or having to go back to hybrid if they were trying full capacity. |
|
Good luck LCPS. Rooting for you and your students.
|
Thank you! I hope everyone else in the area can get back in person soon. It's for the best! |
| Good luck, FCPS. Please be successful so FCPS can follow. |
| Sending well wishes to returning LCPS students and families, from a jealous parent in virtual forever land (ACPS). |
Thank you for the chuckle. Not many of those nowadays. |
But if you look at what a private school is doing you can certainly replicate some of those mitigation strategies within each smaller public school. For example, FCPS could have opened elementary schools with some type of staggered or hybrid schedule by now. Schools could have made use of outdoor spaces while the weather was better given what we know about transmission and air circulation. There are plenty of private schools that are similarly sized as individual public schools and making it work. How many total private students in the DC area are back in school? That would probably be a more accurate comparison point that one single private school compared to an entire school system. Yes, there are still differences of course, but certain things could be replicated and used as models for the public system. Not to mention, plenty of other public school systems in the country have managed to open. It is not a given impossibility, with some creative thinking, proper mitigation and tailored approaches. Dr. Fauci and the AAP have advocated for school reopening. |
