Fairfax County: Polling place report

They really need to make voting safer, not create situations where people may literally be standing right next to racists and white supremacists. That’s insane to expect people to be willing to face that kind of danger to vote.

People like this ignoramus are what causes so much trouble in the world. Pure, 100% presumptions. You don’t think there are Black, Latinx, and Asian people for voting for Trump?

Not to mention the fact that dividing polling locations by party goes against the whole idea of a private ballot.

Terrible idea

Why?

Yes, dumb idea..

If you are afraid to stand in line next to a Trump voter in Fairfax, then you have problems....

Go to the Mclean location as it’s next to the police station!

Anyways, what is wrong with you? I’m voting for Trump and I’m a 5’3” 62 year old woman. Whooo, I’m so scary.

+1
These people are beyond absurd.

+2
Hard to believe anyone would THINK this, let alone express it on social media.
I also want to know what this person thinks an "obviously Trumpet" looks like.

If they can’t get volunteers than they need to hire staff. Waiting two hours is ridiculous.

Guess it’s not that important to you. Stay home.

My husband and I both filled out the form to help with elections and never heard anything back. I don’t understand where the disconnect is.

There is no shortage of people to run the voting locations. You will have 200 precincts open on election day. You are all free to request an absentee ballot and there is no delay in processing to get those. They will arrive in a week if you submit it today.

But, right now, we are in EARLY VOTING. So, no, the county is not going to staff 200 precincts for weeks. If you want to vote early you have options -- but some of them involve waiting.

The county DOES pay the people who are running the early in person voting locations. They also pay the "volunteers" who staff the precincts.

Your demand to vote early in person does not mean the county has to open 200 locations.

And one more thing...

It takes LONGER to vote at a satellite location or the FCGC during early voting than it would take any voter to vote at their precinct b/c we have to go through the extra step of figuring out which ballot to give you. When you show up on election day at your own precinct, everyone who votes at that precinct gets THE SAME ballot b/c they all are in the same congressional district, same state representative district, and same locality.

When we open up free-for-all voting locations, we have to determine which district you belong to so we can give you the right ballot -- the ballot that has the races that are right for you... not the person who lives in Great Falls if you live in Centreville or Alexandria.

It's your CHOICE to stand in line.

I chose to leave , shop, and get home to use the bathroom.

13 satellite locations open Mon-Sat
1 satellite location open Sat only
1 Government Center-Mon-Sat

Precincts? A registered voter can vote in any location. About 500 people at one location by 8:45 and 1 hour later the line barely moved. The 14 satellite locations should have been divided up /assigned precincts. 500 in one spot and at another someone arrived at about 8:45 and there were 3 people. D booth said it would be unfair to assign precincts to satellites. Maybe this means no precinct voting in the future?

Ballot initiative on gerrymandering:
Input I got from manned party booths. Yes means 4D, 4R on commission then goes to General Assembly-constitutional amendment. No means General Assembly appoints people for a group-no constitutional amendment. D wanted a change but now prefer status quo.

They have lots of volunteers but only so much physical space. The room only holds so many people at a time. Maybe they need more locations, at least on weekends.

I'm volunteering on Nov 3 and the County said they have three times the number of volunteers as usual for that date (although, they still assigned me a spot so maybe people aren't following through).

There’s no need to polarize voting even more. Some of us are actually independents and may not vote a straight party ticket.

If you’re really concerned about POC, the solution is to make voting safer for everyone— not to isolate us even further, leaving us as sitting ducks.

I agree with you that the risks can be “insane”. For many of us this has always been a built-in potential part of our voting experiences. Or really, life experiences in general.

DP: If you’re voting for Trump then, yes, you are indeed scary.
And for many of us, a police station in Virginia is just a bunch of armed potential Trump voters with legitimate authority. Nice suggestion though.

If you are scared standing next to a police station, then you have problems. Unless you are doing something illegal?

Would you rather be voting in SE DC??? Remember Chaz, how did that go without police there. 3 murders within 4 days or so by “protester” killing “protester”.
