Fairfax County: Polling place report

It takes LONGER to vote at a satellite location or the FCGC during early voting than it would take any voter to vote at their precinct b/c we have to go through the extra step of figuring out which ballot to give you. When you show up on election day at your own precinct, everyone who votes at that precinct gets THE SAME ballot b/c they all are in the same congressional district, same state representative district, and same locality.

When we open up free-for-all voting locations, we have to determine which district you belong to so we can give you the right ballot -- the ballot that has the races that are right for you... not the person who lives in Great Falls if you live in Centreville or Alexandria.

It's your CHOICE to stand in line.

I chose to leave , shop, and get home to use the bathroom.

13 satellite locations open Mon-Sat
1 satellite location open Sat only
1 Government Center-Mon-Sat

Precincts? A registered voter can vote in any location. About 500 people at one location by 8:45 and 1 hour later the line barely moved. The 14 satellite locations should have been divided up /assigned precincts. 500 in one spot and at another someone arrived at about 8:45 and there were 3 people. D booth said it would be unfair to assign precincts to satellites. Maybe this means no precinct voting in the future?

Ballot initiative on gerrymandering:
Input I got from manned party booths. Yes means 4D, 4R on commission then goes to General Assembly-constitutional amendment. No means General Assembly appoints people for a group-no constitutional amendment. D wanted a change but now prefer status quo.

When I spoke of Precincts, that was obviously only on election day.

Their presence alone could’ve been intimidating to POC or others afraid of being around such people. They really need to make voting safer, not create situations where people may literally be standing right next to racists and white supremacists. That’s insane to expect people to be willing to face that kind of danger to vote.

If anybody is wondering why our society and civic life stands on the brink of failure, look no further than this post.

I posted about going home. i went back later and the time to vote for taking my spot in line to walking out of the voting room was 2.5 hours. Diverse people in line- age , race, etc. Line time was about 2 hours and 25 minutes. Actual voting maybe 5 minutes.

If I voted in the morning based on line length it would have been 3 hours and 15 minutes. The only problem was a person near me who kept removing the flimsy cloth mask [ blow out a candle type through it] to blab on the phone. Not an R or for Trump.

Many people walk past to get to their end place in line while you are in line. The social distancing markers were usually honored- 1 person/6 feet. Some groups of 2-4 went to markers together. Not across the mark but in a clump thereby infringing on the 6 feet. NO monitors.

Many people had absentee ballots in hand and a very small number arrived and crossed to the drop box. Most people wanted to scan it in themselves so turned in their absentee ballots. Even 65 and plus who could have had a runner bring it out and take it in to be scanned.

Can I ask what sort of danger you’re seeing here? Standing next to someone who disagrees with you?

PP - Can you cite violence from Trump voters toward POC, or are you just playing the race card?

Standing in line next to people who vote differently than you is dangerous?

Yes, and if you can’t understand that, then there’s no point in even trying to explain it. You aren’t intellectually or emotionally equipped to even process the information. It would be like trying to explain differential calculus to an ape. And that’s exactly what you are - an ape. You and the rest of your trumper ilk aren’t even human beings. You’re animals.

I'm really hoping that when Election Day rolls around there will be no lines/no fuss at my local precinct b/c it seems like a ton of people have already cast their vote.

I am a Democrat in a red state. You cannot be anywhere near serious.

Would kind of undermine the "secrecy of the ballot" if you had to line up for a separate polling location. Let's just put this silly idea behind us. PP clearly did not know what s/he was suggesting.

I'm the OP, and I really wish this poster would have started their own thread instead of hijacking this one. I really just wanted to hear how early voting was going.

Thank you to those of you who have weighed in with their experiences at their polling locations.

I have gone by Balls Hill every day - at differing times of day - the line has been longer than the first day every day. Gonna try somewhere else right at 1pm today.

Get out and vote!~

I voted this morning at the Government Center. I was in line just before 9 am, was out by 9.45 am.

Bring your own black pen - they have pens but those are not great.

I went to the Springfield location this afternoon. Arrived at 1:30 and it took 2.5 hours. Line didn't look shorter when I left. Everyone I encountered was civil and courteous.
