Teacher unions are good things because principals can be capricious and retention of (more expensive) teachers is an important public good. I believe in seniority rules, fighting for pay raises, fighting against unmitigated use of standardized test scores. When I was in elementary school our teachers went on strike and my mom kept us home so as not to cross the picket line. But no. Time to pull a Scott walker on teacher unions, sorry. |

You do understand that this is what all other workers back in person are already doing, right? Teachers are not unique. Roughly 50% of DC is now back at their jobs in person or never left. |

The survey flat out says if you don’t respond you are able to teach in person. Whoever posted it conveniently left that out. The union said they already saw this and asked for two revisions and DCPS said they would re present it on Thursday. So they sent it out before showing them the revisions. Anyway just when everyone finally realized how the blame was with bowser and it really wasn’t the teachers who were the boogeyman, they got you back on the union. |
| Op here- I want to go back. There’s not an option that says this. I think this is purposeful so DCPS can say teachers didn’t respond so they can blame the union when it doesn’t work. I also fault the union (and vocalize this) for being annoying. |
I'm back. I was anxious too before I went back, so I understand, but it's fine. And it's wonderful to be with students in the classroom again even under these circumstances. You'll see. Get some some good masks and read studies on the protections masks provide wearers. If you asked me who designed a survey where 3 of the 4 choices are remain %100 virtual, I would have guessed the teachers union. Talk about trying to stack the deck. Funny that the teachers union doesn’t like it. |

What if I choose #4 and my class doesn’t have enough kids who want to go back? I teach self contained. I DO NOT Want to be placed at another school or get kids from across town, been there and it’s awful when the bus messes up every week. |
This. They aren't asking if you'd like to go back full time because bringing the kids back full time isn't on the table in the near future. We'll muddle through hybrid first. (Bleargh. If it was five half-days a week, I'd be interested, but only two full days and then three days of "asynchronous" seems like the worst of both worlds.) So there's no point in asking if you'd like that because it's not even on the table. They aren't trying to alienate teachers. They are trying to figure out if they will have the staff to do hybrid. |

I can't figure it out either but it made me very happy that I filled mine out in spite of the union's request not to. |
