That answer makes more sense, but it is insane that even the people responding to emails don't know how we should be responding.

Can you please elaborate why we shouldn’t have chosen option 4 if we want to teach in person? I’m so confused by this survey. I’d love to return to my classroom but resent that the new plan came out and it isn’t what I thought I was agreeing to.

I wasn’t sure either. I emailed and was told at first (in two emails) to select 4. Yesterday I received an email saying I wasn’t supposed to pick anything.

You go out. Have food delivered. You go to target. Why would teachers teach?

The fact that you have “paid” leave for a year and FMLA after that speaks to the fact that teachers do abuse the system. Who has that much tax paid leave?? Absurd.

DC government employees. If you don’t like the FMLA and paid parental leave laws, please petition the council to change the laws. How wet they were just expanded to private businesses in the district so good luck with that.

Why is there still discussion on this thread? Does it matter anymore, how stupid the survey was and how dumb were replies? Most DCPS kids are robbed of normal learning until at least April, there’s nothing left to ruin.

FMLA is not paid leave! It just guarantees that your job will be there for you after the time you take off. You can also apply for paid family leave which expires more quickly. And CARES act leave, which is a whole different ballgame.

Because despite what you think about teachers, some of us are trying to find our way back to our classrooms.

I'm an ESL teacher and I was going to choose in person learning. Then I realized that with the new plan, at most 5 of my students will be back in person. So who will support the other 22 students that I work with? I decided to switch to online learning so I can still provide support to the majority of my students.

Thank you teachers for trying to make the most of a difficult situation. -parent

I don't subjectify all teachers to be bad and evil, I just think that bowser, chancellor, and teacher union all tried equally hard to F this up. If you are trying to return to classroom - I think you'd find more like-minded coworkers in more functional school systems, like APS and MCPS, where all ES kids will have 2 days of school starting the beginning of November. DCPS is doomed, and 90% of kids won't be getting educated this year.

Hey Friend. Cares ACT provides money for FMLA. So it is paid leave.
I should know. I am on that leave right now... and today was payday.

Thats PFL, which is linked to FMLA. You get 8 weeks of PFL from DCPS and 16 weeks of FMLA beyond that.

Hey friend, I was on FMLA and PFL to care for my dying father in 2019. It was 8 weeks of paid leave at my regular rate and then an additional 8 weeks of unpaid leave because FMLA gives me 16 weeks total. My understanding is that CARES act leave is 10 weeks with 2/3 pay, but maybe you have a different situation. The point is all the people who are acting like teachers get full pay for a year if they take this leave are completely off the mark.
