Are they joking? No schedules until 8/24?

What have they been doing all summer? Central office sounds very disorganized.

I'm a teacher and I've been taking online classes to learn Canvas and the MS suite better. As for downtown, I have NO idea. They certainly haven't told the staff at my school anything and it is very frustrating. They keep telling parents they have all these plans, but we know nothing about them. How can I implement a plan that I haven't seen? We have a staff meeting today and I am hoping for some info from my principal. Supposedly her and AP have been in DCPS leadership training this week.

Seriously asking, how do you think you contributed to this conversation with this post?

I am making plans and the kids (4th and 1st) will just have to work around. Ex: back in July when they punted the opening decision, I started interviewing nanny/tutors. Now that outdoor activities are starting to offer school day classes, I’m signing them up. They won’t be able to attend classes a few days a week. I don’t know, I just can’t see that being a problem and if it is, ffs I’ll pull them and “homeschool”.

Well, this pandemic situation is fluid and unprecedented.

And there are so many moving pieces.

For example, DCPS put together an interesting series of parent university sessions on canvas.

But when I tried to register on my tablet, I wasn’t able to.

Maybe I need to download teams on my tablet before I can register. Or maybe the registration platform isn’t compatible with my tablet. Or maybe it was just a bad day.

Sigh.

Our school (Maury) said the class lists were coming out today? If this a school by school decision?

Sorry — I misread the original post. You meant schedules of when it’s online learning.

Our school said no school Wednesdays to prepare for when Wednesdays becomes a cleaning day.... FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LETS CROSS THAT BRIDGE WHEN WE GET THERE

The idea of killing an entire school day in preparation for something that is months away is insanity.

Yeah it's asinine. If any of these decisions were being made based on the latest evidence then we wouldn't even need a whole day for cleaning. Covid-19 is overwhelmingly transmitted through airborne droplets. All the studies have struggled to produce any evidence whatsoever of anyone being infected by touching contaminated surfaces. That points to a need to wipe down surfaces more frequently maybe but not an hours-long deep clean every week.

We can all deduce what is really happening here.

Can you share what activities? Where are you finding out about them? I'd like to do the same.

Families have had since March to set up a schedule that works for themselves. I know it took us awhile to sort out the best timing for how we all coordinate device usage, time of day kids work best on academics, not to mention some quiet reading time and physical activity. I am hoping for maximum flexibility with whatever "schedule" each of my childrens teachers propose.

this means nothing if our kids are now required to be present at designated times throughout the day. How can you be so confident that what you figured out in the spring will work in the fall?

I suspect individual teachers (at least in DCPS) will not have the scheduling autonomy they did in the spring because each school is creating a master schedule. They might be able to work with you on small group times, but the academic blocks, specials and any services might be very rigid. I'm a teacher and I have no idea how I'm going to keep my young child on track with DL unless my schedule magically works with her live times.

Did you miss the memo on how we are entering a new school year? It's not a continuation of last year. Anyway, some of us are new to DCPS or new to the school we're enrolled in this fall.
