They seem to have taken Select, slapped a BLC logo on it, and are having them play in NGLL (yet to be seen). Also keep in mind this team is made up of two grade levels, mainly because they aren't able to recruit enough players to fill an entire roster.
I can tell you that almost anyone made the Select team last year. My daughter tried out with a friend who is very non-athletic. No speed, limited skills, etc., and she made the team. My daughter tried out for BLC this year and made the orange team (she declined). This year, they are collecting deposits but making no promises about what the year will look like. They are making no promises about practices or anything...just collecting $600 from everyone with a promise to return it if there is no lacrosse between now and next summer. This is how their letter read:
In this time of continued uncertainty, we recognize that the 2020-2021 season (September through June/early July) is impossible to schedule and predict. As a 501c3, not-for-profit, we develop our budgets based on team expenses. As such, we are requesting that you pay a deposit of $600 to secure your spot on the team. This will be applied to your team fees. Remainder of the team fees will be calculated as soon as we have clarity on the upcoming year.
Note - the team fees will be in the same range as last year for this given team/age group. There will be no refunds or credits issued for withdrawal from BLC during the course of the year. However, in the unlikely event that we cannot have lacrosse through next summer, 2021, the paid deposit will be FULLY refunded to you.
My daughter is on MC Elite and practices start next week (3 times a week) and they have filled rosters for both A and B teams. I don't think BLC Orange is anywhere near where MC Elite B team is...but that is what they are trying to do. For example the MC Elite B team 2026 plays BLC A team in tournaments and in the league.
