I don’t think right now is a good time to determine if they should be their own forum. Often questions are asked comparing FCPS to APS, ACPS or Loudoun.

I agree with this.

Maybe you call them 1) FCPS Schools 2) TJ 3) Other non FCPS VA Public Schools (eg Arlington, Loudoun, Falls Church)

I realize TJ is a FCPS school but it deserves its own board unless you want rename AAP: AAP/TJ but I think it is better for TJ to have its own board.

Yes, this. It should settle down...eventually.

Oh my god, life does not revolve around your kid's high school. I haven't seen a TJ question in a long time.

I am indifferent but I think if you analyzed things you would probably find a disproportionate number of APS threads relative to enrollment.

It will make it easier to follow if you split.

I think it will settle back down eventually, but maybe this could be a temporary change.

Honestly if anything needs its own forum it’s APS for all their boundary issue handwringing.

Wait, where's Jason?

It's a good idea - FCPS is one of the biggest school districts in the country

And while LCPS, APS are great and may share things in common, doesn't relate as much to FCPS.

If you create a separate FCPS forum, consider how FCPS dominates the AAP forum. I realize it is for advanced academics elsewhere but the term AAP is used only in FCPS (I think). I hate having AAP in that title, because AAP has four levels of which Level IV (maybe Level III) is really discussed. The other three levels fall into the Gen Ed category. Maybe the forum name could be a little less FCPS centered.

I mean, the forum listing says that AAP the forum _IS_ primarily intended for the FCPS program... and yes, it is focused on the Level IV programs (local or center) colloquially referred to as "AAP" (even though technically AAP covers other levels). If anything if there's confusion about this I'd either make it more FCPS-centered... like "AAP Level IV" forum or similar... or less FCPS-centered like "Programs for Academically Advanced Students".

I'm indifferent about splitting out the FCPS forum... preference would be that we just establish a standard that any threads/topics that are district-specific have the district acronym as the first element of the thread title... e.g.:

[FCPS] Which FCPS schools may need name changes?
[APS] School Boundary Study
Governor Northam announces Phase 3 Guidance
[FCPS] McLean/Langley Boundary Adjustment

While it goes in waves, FCPS’s dominance of his board is a perennial issue, as are the FCPS poster who think every thread here is about FCPS (see, e.g., how often posters will come into a thread that’s specifically identified as being about APS or FCCPS to tell us about their experience in FCPS, seemingly unaware that were not talking about FCPS).

I vote for a separate FCPS board. To the extent there are general questions relevant to all VA Public Schools, they can still be posted in this forum.

No thanks. Seems like this will settle down soon

I don’t really see the need, and you’ll still end up with cross-pollination where people in Arlington jump on threads about FCPS and people in Fairfax jump on threads about APS.

+1. As someone not in either of the above districts it has been helpful to see what everyone else is doing in one place. We’re in ACPS, fwiw. Another vote to keep it all together!
