Yes. The current plan for secondary DL has 4 blocks a day. It is just not done well in MCPS which is why most schools did hybrid-block or modified block before. Those schools usually had 7 periods three days a week and block just two. Block sounds like it worked for you, but it doesn’t work well for most 11-15 year olds. |

Seriously, have people had experience with this scenario before? All of you talk as you have first hand knowledge and experience. I’m impressed.
This is the first time my family is experiencing DL in a worldwide pandemic. |
Yes, but many people have prior experience with block. |
| Block schedule worked very well for DS with ADHD in middle school. High school modified block was so-so. We most definitely prefer block. |
| I want block scheduling so I can have my kid's friends over for certain classes to socially distant learn and study together |
Yes, my oldest had it in private school and it is amazing! |
| Block is so much better. |
People are going with their experience of block vs regular periods. Most high schools in MCPS are on a 7 period schedule, which is unfortunate. Some schools and I believe most magnets have blocks. I very much prefer block scheduling! |
Why can’t you do that with 7 PDs? |
My child is on a block schedule at his MS. It works well for my kid regarding assignment management and his teachers are able to cover a lot in one period or do in-depth science and math projects. I haven't noticed any issues with only having teaching contact 2-3 days per week. These kids are advanced but even in the regular classes, kids seem to adjust to the schedule. |
Block is better for homework load/scheduling for sure! |
Do you think this projects will be done during Zoom? |
Don't know but my child's Algebra teacher used Zoom effectively in the spring and kept the kids engaged by teaching new content. Bottom line, it depends on the teacher. I hope my son's school keeps the block schedule but I am not against other schools going back to their normal schedule for DL. |
If you haven’t figured this out yet, the teachers are trying to do as little work as possible. They don’t give two f::ks about education or what is best for students. Just want to the most convenient for them. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. |
How could teaching from 5 classes 5 days a week be less work than teaching 4 classes 4 days a week? |
