Will you pull your child out of your club for the fall?

No. Something is better than nothing. They need stability and the ability to connect, even socially distant. We already committed the money.

This was our thinking as well.

+2 Practice is good exercise and much better than home playing roblox. DS hates when I make him ride his bike while I run.

Given what we have seen and heard across clubs and teams, very few parents have exited travel soccer, at least in younger age groups, notwithstanding what you read in these pages. That might change if the numbers increase dramatically in the DMV. And I do not think people would be happy to travel for overnight tournaments until we see some or any light at the end of the tunnel. But local league play will certainly proceed if left to participants. It won't stop or slow because there is substantial parental exit, at least not based on what we see at this juncture.

I do notice some clubs heavily advertising for youth league tryouts so there is definitely a drop.

Preach on the other threads. Why are you still here if your child is not playing? The numbers across clubs tell us there are a handful of parents at most who share your view, if, in fact, you are a soccer parent.

Oh we are absolutely now registered at a different club. Would’ve left earlier if we were allowed

Lol. And look at you trolling the soccer forum. You must already miss it and know you made the wrong decision. My kids are practicing two days a week responsibly and it’s already provided the much needed exercise and stability they needed. Good luck hitting the links.

Besides learning how to play golf and tennis, my kid is still playing soccer. I don't think it is worth it to pay club fees for the fall. He was going to move clubs anyway so it was an easy decision. He meets up with three neighborhood kids and the neighbor and I are paying a high school student who is a fantastic soccer player to play soccer with them in the neighbor's big backyard. So the kids play 2 v 2 and do some drills several times a week. I am surprised more people are considering doing this.

DS getting 3-4 trainings a week with Coach, plus scrimmages. Keeping his skills up in a structured setting all summer. Seeing his friends. So there may not be 9 games this fall. ok.

Will be. Any day they should be announcing.

No, we are at a small club that charges around $1200 for a full year. That includes tournaments so it might be cheaper if tournaments are cancelled. They refunded $350 for the Spring season this year. If we paid more than that I would say it's not worth the money

EDP just had a tournament over the weekend as well as the next two weekends in New Jersey with teams from other states. NJ is a lot worse off than Virginia. and Maryland. Turnout was low however. Good on them for at least giving it a shot. Hoping the negativity here is not the majority and rather the minority.

.....hopefully your opinion is not the majority otherwise our area will quickly become just like Florida.

Somehow I don't think youth soccer is what is driving outbreaks in FLA or TX. But let's watch NJ very closely to see what happens in the wake of the EDP tournament.

No, general attitude and lack of respect for the virus is what is causing the outbreaks. People being unwilling to curb their daily routines for common good. Pick your social outlet but keep it within a bubble. Going to restaurants, bars, beaches etc. are expanding risk and exposure.

Keep your bubbles tighter, which can include the soccer team. Wear a mask when out. Limit social interactions outside of your bubble and we'll be fine. Whoever you get exposed to you also expose your team. If you want soccer then consider your soccer team part of your family and don't put hem at risk.

If people abide by this we can have a season that is limited to local games. Overnight tournaments or league games just have to be off the table for the fall.

All it takes is one team to travel out of town for a tournament to shut down their team league schedule. The other teams may get to keep playing but your team might have to bow out of the season because you just needed to go to Jeff Cup or something else.

Well I guess we will be like Florida then. Our area is much more cautious than others. Guessing the Ohio, PA and New Jersey teams travel. Also guessing teams from Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina will attend as well.

I am guessing they will have about half of the teams that were accepted in March.

I don’t take any issue with teams backing out, but we probably shouldn’t discriminate against those that attend. If a DC gets CoVid, I’m sure it will be managed. If a Club wants to take that risk, so be it. It doesn’t affect those Clubs who decided to pass. Regular season doesn’t start for many until after Labor Day with some leagues a week before Labor Day.

I do wish we were going. I’m still bitter...

Dude, chill out man!!! It’s fine to have an opinion but it doesn’t mean you are right. Baseball and Basketball tournaments have been going on with little problems. Are you the type of person that complains to the Tournament Director because of your opinion? Are you an Epidemiologist and have vast knowledge of how Children spread the virus? If not I suggest you stfu.

I didn't realize my post was so aggressive. You might need to relax. Sorry but the writing is on the wall. Overnight tournaments will not do well and so what? There are lots of tournament options available in the immediate area but don't expect many out of town clubs to come to Bethesda, WAGS etc. Jeff Cup has already pulled the plug on the "Showcase" aspect and changed it to "friendlies". The boys side is pretty much scrapped. Why? Because teams are not willing to get on planes or stay in hotels right now.

So, all this means is that soccer will just look more regional with tourneys. What is the problem with that?

And, while you may be willing to travel you probably do not have enough parents on your team who agree with you and therefor your team will not travel. Accept it.
