Is it time to give up my BMW? If so, for what?

I was just about to order it, but found out Costco doesn’t carry that size tires.

I'm seriously considering trading in my G550 for a 4 Runner. They just seem fun and practical. I've been driving a tank so the truck-ishness doesn't bother me.

4Runners do seem pretty cool.

Toyota Sequoia seems to be pretty big, with a nice interior. A neighbor has one and I like it.

Sorry, not the later model ones. The ones pre-2011 used to be very solid (minus the head gasket issue), the ones post-2011 have more issues.

Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, or a Hyundai Palisade/Kia Telluride.

Highlander. No question. I went from Audi A6 to Highlander, and while not nearly as fun to drive (sigh) the Highlander is the perfect all-around mover.

Subarus are fine if you don’t plan to keep them longer than 3-4 years like we do. We’ve had 3 Foresters and 2 Outbacks over the years. We noticed they begin to have performance issues after awhile. One Forester’s engine became sluggish after the 3rd year. Another, the transmission ran rough and made hissing noises. They all begin to show age after couple of years. On one, passenger side sun visor broke and wouldn’t stay up, another, the wiring to the airbag that detects weight on the driver seat malfunctioned, the clip on the headrest cracked and we’d often lose radio station settings.. to name some.

Depending on budget the porsche macan is awesome, but definitely more SUVish.

RIP Volvo xc70! I got the last one in 16 and I’m in love. Driving an In-line 6 is a dream, I despise turbo engines!

Subaru is going to feel like junk after a German. I would consider an Audi all road or A4 or Volvo v60.

I agree with you

Who quoted you $4k for the A/C repair? If it was a BMW dealer, then find an independent shop for a new quote. $4k seems really high.

If you’re in the DMV try Scandinavian Auto in Rockville.

A BMW wagon drives SO much nicer than 90% of new cars out there. With kids and dogs you will need an SUV or van - but maybe you’re ready for that? I liked the euro styling of the VW atlas but I really wanted power seats.

The key to owning a BMW is finding a mechanic (not the dealer!!!) that you trust. I have owned a couple of BMWs (one for over 20!years) and once I found a reliable mechanic the crazy expensive and out of the blue repairs stopped.

Pacifica Hybrid minivan. It has the space you need and really good fuel economy. Please dont get a gas guzzling SUV.
