SYC Parents

It's not an argument. An argument means somebody said something which has supporting evidence. This guy is just creating a baseless rumor.

Here's what doesn't make sense to me...Are you recruiting for your blue teams at those ages? Have you suffered so much attrition and you just really don't want to bring up the previous SYC players that you pushed down to the orange teams last year?

Or are you recruiting for orange and below to fill out the lower teams? And if that's the case, why in the world do you think that a high-school age kid would want to switch clubs to be on a lower team at a mediocre club? Maybe because of the 40+ VYSA State Cups that SYC coaches have won as players and coaches??

But seriously, you're not Arlington, you're not Bethesda, you're not DC United.

Not at SYC, but this is silly. Some of their boys teams are on a par with Arlington at the very least. Clubs don't win games. Teams win games. Do your homework and look who is actually competing successfully in the area. Yes, Bethesda and DCU do extremely welll. But there are certainly SYC teams that are better or as good as some Arlington teams and better than most teams in the area. Why shouldn't they try to become better? Because they are not what you think is great already? That is absolutely nonsensical.

I don't know what teams he was recruiting for (you may be right about the 05B and 06B blue teams, but I'm sure that SYC suffered some attrition on the lower teams, as did everyone). I don't know what his affiliation is with SYC, other than that he SAID he was looking for players for SYC--but it's silly if you think that someone has to be on the coaching slate of SYC to be out looking for players.

I've never had a kid at SYC, so I don't really care. But we do have close friends who have had promises made to them by the current SYC coaches, and then been told something along the lines of, "But won't it be great if DS can get more games by playing with the orange team? Oh, and practicing with the orange team, too. And pretty much being on the orange team."

If you're happy, and the boys are all coming back, great! But they're out looking...

So what did FTF guy say? FTF is not a coach at SYC. Why would FTF guy say "Come to SYC", especially since everybody is coming back. Maybe you're confusing "SYC" with "SYA", or "Springfield South County Youth Club" (SYC") with "South Country Athletic Association" (SCAA).

Sure, they should try to become better. Which is why this whole, "NO WAY was SYC out looking for players" thing is ridiculous.

It's clear, SYC wasn't. "FTF guy" apparently was, but "FTF guy" isn't with SYC. He's not a coach, and since I am around the 06B and aware of the 05B age groups, he's not involved in that capacity. The entire premise is misleading. If "FTF guy" was out there recruiting, it wasn't for SYC.

If you're a director at SYC, then go ahead and just say that you're not out looking for players. If you're NOT a director, then you really don't have any standing to say things like, "everybody is coming back," do you?

But again...I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with being out looking for players. You're trying to build your teams and your programs. Current SYC parents should welcome that, right?

Okay, well, there it is. I stand corrected.

There's a guy out there SAYING he's looking for SYC players, but you're a parent and you KNOW that there's no way your tech directors would ask an acquaintance to look for players for them.

I'm an active parent in our age group. I'm not director, and not a delegate of parents. But more than that, I'm calling you out. You're unwilling to specify your club affiliation and/or the field this was allegedly happening at. This makes a troll. You're ignoring my previous counterpoints of:
- FTF is not a coach at SYC
- Why would FTF guy say "Come to SYC", especially since everybody is coming back
- Maybe you're confusing "SYC" with "SYA"
- Maybe you're confusing "Springfield South County Youth Club" (SYC") with "South Country Athletic Association" (SCAA).

Name your club.

Guy, our directors and coaches are a little busy at the moment. We've got a lot of players and teams at our fields.

All plural.

Just making sure this is clearly seen.

I'm an active parent in our age group. Doesn't mean anything.

- FTF is not a coach at SYC Accepted. Doesn't mean that he can't be out recruiting.

Why would FTF guy say "Come to SYC", especially since everybody is coming back You're an 06B blue parent? You know about that team. Maybe the 05B blue. Maybe they're looking to expand the rosters (normal at the high school ages). Maybe they're looking to fill out the younger age groups. In any case, NONE of what you've typed precludes the idea that SYC would be actively looking to bring in new players.

- Maybe you're confusing "SYC" with "SYA"
Possible, not likely. I have 20/20 hearing.

- Maybe you're confusing "Springfield South County Youth Club" (SYC") with "South Country Athletic Association" (SCAA). See above.

It was at Patriot Park at approximately 6:35-6:50 on 29 June 2020. Not my club, tbh, which is why I hesitate to involve the club. I have a younger son (2007) who was practicing there as a guest.

Well it's clear SYC wasn't recruiting. It's clear this FTF guy isn't an SYC coach. Regarding what actually happened, I don't know. But I do know, as do you, SYC coaches or directors weren't at your field recruiting your players.

I agree that the person who was at the field who stated very clearly that he was looking for 05 and 06 boys to join SYC (which doesn’t sound like SYA or SCAA) is not an SYC coach or director.

But you have no ability to say that he was NOT, in fact, doing exactly what he said he was doing—which, by the way, isn’t a terrible thing.

It’s not like anyone is being accused of a crime! But, Mr. “Active Parent,” the clubs ALWAYS have more info on what they’re doing than the parents do. This is just information because I, as a parent, like information and I assume (mistakenly, apparently) that other parents also like information. Your little tantrum has been amusing, but incomprehensible to me.

"SYC is recruiting!!!" became "Okay so SYC wasn't recruiting"... I think we're good buddy.
