Maybe another way to motivate schools to reopen since there literally be no child care options for everyone.

Men can just as easily care for their children.

And yet somehow they don’t.

Mine does. Maybe you should have chosen better.

Ugh thirty million unemployed Americans. You suck!

You realize this may increase unemployment as people drop out to watch their kids? Right?

That's not unemployment. And if that's what happens, so be it. You aren't entitled to cheap foreign labor, and if you can't pay market rates for the labor you require, you get to do it yourself like the rest of us. I'm happy to see this change. Domestic workers have enough to worry about trying to get fair wages, having to compete with imported people who do their jobs for next to nothing should not be one of them.

Really? So why did Trump exclude H2B food service workers that his resort uses.
Dam# hypocritical, self serving, narcistic ahole. That's why

Can Americans not do that job? 30 mill. unemployed but Trump can't find food service workers to work at his resort in FL?

BTW, I don't use an au pair, never have.

I totally agree with you wrt Trump. He too should hire Americans and pay market rates for the labor.

Yes he should, but since he's not, why do the rest of Americans have to follow that rule but he doesn't? He can and should lead by example.

Until then, I don't think anyone has the right to blame a person for hiring a worker who best fits their needs.

So let me get this straight. The president engages in shady employment practices, so you should be able to as well, and no one has the right to "blame" you for it? That’s some serious gymnastics, I'll give you that. But morality doesn't work that way. It's wrong. It's wrong for him to take advantage of people, and it's wrong for you to do so as well.

If it was as bad as the naysayers claim, then no one would sign up. But I know of many au pairs who are here because the program was recommended to them by an older sister or cousin. The program is popular for a reason.

No kidding. There have always been more available au pairs than spots for a reason. No one is forcing these au pairs to come. Are there a few bad apple families? Probably, but au pairs have a safety net in place. Rematches can and do happen. I think there are a lot of grumpy nannies here who resent these younger people competing for the work.

+1. We had a German au pair for two years. She went to Nantucket with us for two weeks and Hawaii the next year for two weeks. She took college classes. Had her friends come over after we all went to bed. She found a nice boyfriend. We still stay in touch weekly.

She had a lot of money saved up by the time she left. She said it is super popular. She took her own trips all over the US in her two years. Not bad considering she drove kids to school. Packed lunches. Did their laundry and made them dinner some nights.

I think a lot of au pairs in DC had similar experiences. She had a car to use on weekends.

I can’t believe these naysayers above.

From our perspective she was invaluable. She did carry her weight. She wrapped the kids presents. Helped with some errands. She was part of the family. But she definitely benefited financially and culturally.

I don’t deny there are families in the program that shouldn’t be. Every au pair I’ve had (4) had a friend stay with us at some point while in rematch either because the family threw her out or made staying there so intolerable she couldn’t. But that also means I’ve seen the program step in and help the au pair every single time.

Au pair is just cheap childcare, the education and cultural exchange is a think vailed scam

Either you’ve never had an au pair or you were a terrible host family.
