Defund MPD - thoughts?

The DC MPD is nothing but a public employment project. The cops are paid extremely handsomely and they do very, very little. And if you ever make even the most legitimate complaint, there will be payback: you will receive harassment calls at three AM for a month (I did).

On the other hand, Trump would love to see DC MPD defunded, because that would be his excuse to fully Federalize policing in DC. That means that we would get the Park Police thugs as neighborhood cops, shooting civilians and stealing personal property.

Uniformed cops still exist in multiple agencies, but there are fewer agencies. And since the uniformed agencies do not include the investigative component, these large masses of armed personnel cannot just dominate the entire criminal justice system the way that police do here.

Special police who perform government guarding functions do not have full-blown, all-locations, 24x7 police authority. In many cases, unarmed.

Actually, I think we should defund the MPD only so that crime overruns the area, all businesses leave because they're sick of shoplifting and hold ups, and the people who called for these kinds of stupid ideas reap what they sow when their home values tank.

Baltimore has trouble getting enough cops on the street. As a result, all hell has broken loose and Baltimore's rate of murder is worse than El Salvador's. How exactly are cops supposed to prevent and/or reduce crime when idiotic liberal judges constantly let one-man crime waves out of jail with a slap on the wrist. DC is just like Baltimore where insane liberal judges let out violent criminals and one man crime waves with almost no to little time served. Cops continually lock up the same criminals over and over and over again because they keep breaking the law with no repercussions. When you teach people that they can keep breaking the law with no punishments of course they'll keep breaking the law. Getting rid of the insanity that governs both DC and Baltimore's criminal justice systems is a starter. Lock criminals.up who break the law and keep them there. There is no excuse, why in a city like Baltimore, for example, that cops have had to arrest the same criminal over 20 times for a huge number of crimes because liberal Democrat judges keep letting them out on the streets.

Defund the police? What a great idea. Persons of means will retain the now-unemployed personnel as private security, the rest will join the ranks of people looking for work, and ordinary citizens will have no one to call when they need help.

In DC and PG, I’d bet that a great deal of the crime is committed by police personnel, both on- and off-duty, and by their associates whom they protect. The cops are part of the criminal rot. They don’t solve it. They create it.
