Are Daycares really going to require 2 year olds to wear masks?

Why not use the adhesive masks? Those will stay on.

My kid with a major immune issues has worn a mask for day long visits to the hospital since he was tiny, for things like hospital visits. We basically trained him by putting on the mask and doing something really fun, usually reading a book in an animated manner because that was his thing, and then when he touched the masks, we'd stop. Close the book, and wait silently for him to lower his hands. If we needed to put the mask back on we would. As soon as he wasn't touching it and it was on, we'd start the fun thing again.

We trained his older brother to keep a nebulizer mask on the same way, although his reward was TV, because that's what he liked.

I think this illustrates how difficult it will be to get an entire class of little kids to wear a mask for the entire day. There will have been varying degrees of training by the parents and I don’t want the teachers to be spending the entire time dealing with mask compliance.

We have a couple different style masks for our 4yo but she has curly hair and it’s been a struggle getting her to keep it on. The elastic over the ear type does not really stay over her little ears it the kind that ties around her head doesn’t stay secure enough and slips down too.

It's not an issue about the masks staying on, the issue is that the kids touch the mask.

Right but if this mask isn’t staying on correctly it’s a given the child will be touching it.

They’re both issues.

Is that a serious suggestion? I can't tell.

I'm absolutely positive that I could *staple* a mask to my 2yo and he'd fight and fight until he ripped it out.

(half kidding)

The answer to the OP is, of course they don't expect 2 year olds to wear masks. The DC guidelines are pretty clear that only kids who are mature enough to wear masks properly, and not touch them, should wear masks, as determined by the parents and providers. While two year olds technically fall under that policy, I've never met a 2yo that could be trusted to do that. It's a silly recommendation made just for show.

They better wear them

No way.

I don’t understand why the younger children can’t wear face shields or even the cute bucket hats with face shields. Isn’t that the obvious solution?

Here's another post where I can't tell if it's serious or a joke... I'm being completely honest.
