Are Daycares really going to require 2 year olds to wear masks?

Anonymous
We received an email from our daycare today with some basic information about reopening, whenever that happens. One of the things on the list is that 2 years and up wear a mask at daycare. I have a 2 year old and there is no way she would keep a mask on. Also, I really don’t think a mask is safe for a 2 year old.

Are daycares really going to expect 2 yo and up to wear masks?

Weird have friends at other daycare and no mask required on kids

We are essential workers. Our child is not required to wear a mask. They do take a lot of other precautions, though.

There is no way I can get my 2 yo in a mask. I have tried. If daycare says that is a condition, we won’t be returning until it is lifted. Otherwise, we will be there on day 1. I am
Lucky that I have been making it work under current conditions and can basically do it indefinitely.

No.

Both VA and DC guidelines for childcare recommend it, but I don’t think either require it.

Wear a shield fool

The guidelines recommend them but most centers are just doing masks if requested by parents and then all kids 5 and up.

Little kids in Asian daycares wear them. I wonder why they do to get the kids to keep them on?

My kid with a major immune issues has worn a mask for day long visits to the hospital since he was tiny, for things like hospital visits. We basically trained him by putting on the mask and doing something really fun, usually reading a book in an animated manner because that was his thing, and then when he touched the masks, we'd stop. Close the book, and wait silently for him to lower his hands. If we needed to put the mask back on we would. As soon as he wasn't touching it and it was on, we'd start the fun thing again.

We trained his older brother to keep a nebulizer mask on the same way, although his reward was TV, because that's what he liked.

Shields do nothing to filter the air you’re breathing.

DC center director here: recommended but not required, and must be removed if the child is seen to be touching it.

In Germany it is optional in schools and daycares for children under 10 FYI. Adults are all required to wear them.

Zero expectations that they will actual wear a mask for the day. Will be amazed if they are compliant with wearing one. The expectation is that we will at least attempt getting them to wear one.
