Wilson Overenrolled.

Or maybe redistrict all of Wilson to all these underenrolled high schools and then make Wilson a middle school.

Thats a real vote of confidence with there.

No, they automatically transfer all kids from Deal and Hardy to Wilson, even the ones who already filled out the paperwork to say they are going to private school for 9th, then they "unenroll" them from Wilson even though they never actually enrolled.

Get rid of OOB feeder rights. Pull bancroft, Sheperd, Oyster out of the feeder pattern. Problem solved.

Why don't the OOB kids go to their underenrolled schools?

They are likely not the ones complaining about the shool being overenrolled.

Nope, just the ones causing it.

This is what happens---all the Deal and Hardy kids are enrolled at Wilson even those who move out of area (many international families use this point to move) or go to Catholic or independent schools.
This is the 23% withdrawal rate.

It has an “amazing building!” If only that’s why people chose a particular school.

Wilson has just about as many students enrolled as Anacostia, Ballou, Coolidge and Dunbar combined.

People complaining might consider moving to their one of the under enrolled high schools. Maybe people can use their stimulus checks to move near Wilson? Would the complainers be happy if the in-boundary students moved to the area? Would the situation be resolved? Kids that are out of boundary have gone to Wilson forever and now some want to toss them out.

No one wants students already enrolled at Wilson to be tossed out. We are talking about stemming the flow of future OOB kids into Wilson.

Anacostia has maybe 200 students max. Coolidge - not more than 350. DCPS seems to have no idea how to run high schools as all these schools are doing terribly. Anacostia and Ballou both just went through complete redesign processes. Lot of money was spent on redesign. Let’s see if they are successful at attracting and retaining students.

Because according to the rules they have a right to be there. You don't have to like the rules, but you have to follow them.

Let’s make sure “those kids” who don’t have a “right” to go to the best public high school can’t go? Let’s kick out “those” kids.

Don’t you listen to yourselves?

Once again, the OOB Wilson kids -- or, for that matter, kids who are OOB for any school or go to a charter -- should be the ones filling their underenrolled IB schools if they're so desirable.

Perhaps we should close all the other comprehensive high schools and send all the kids to Wilson. Deal could be relocated and Wilson could expand by taking over the Deal building. Too bad they opened the swimming pool at Wilson as that could have been used to create more space.

“Wilson for All” I love it. The Wilson principal would love this plan. She is most certainly looking to move up and this would make her a very powerful principal indeed.
