I would go in this scenario. As long as you don't care about restaurants. |
Hawaii has arrested people for breaking a similar quarantine. I wouldn’t be surprised if they enforce it. Otherwise, they get the worst of all worlds. They hurt their tourism badly because most people will stay away, but they will still have a decent bit of spread from people like you who think the rules don’t apply to them. Either have and enforce the quarantine to try to really stop the spread, or let the economy function. |
They can't. They even admit this. It's just to try to deter people from coming in the first place. They're letting hotels take reservations in July (which totally goes against the idea that Maine should self isolate into August) so I don't really think this will stand. |
They can't. They even admit this in a bunch of articles I read. |
You can fairly easily track based on out of state plates. |
Most people cannot go on a vacation that lasts not only the two week quarantine period but then also the actual vacation where you go out and see Maine. I am hoping to go to Maine for a month so I can do the quarantine and a vacation. But not everyone can work remotely from anywhere, ya know? |
Hawaii has the benefit of being islands. They can actually stop people. |
|
I am LOLing at the idea that people think this will actually be enforced.
I'm the PP who owns the lake house. Believe me, there is no ability to enforce this. It's just to try to deter people from coming in the first place. |
They could, if they want. They could station someone at the entrance to Acadia, for example, I ask you to provide a declaration stating when you entered the state. It would be quite easy to see if someone lied and then prosecute for perjury, in addition to breaking the quarantine. This would take some man power, but it would be completely feasible to implement if they wanted. |
They aren’t stopping you from entering. You can enter, but then you have to stay quarantined. There are already plate readers on highways. You could use that to track entries. |

That you can't park at a trail head in the woods during a quarantine is stupid.
That you can't visit any businesses I accept. |
And...you actually think this is something they want to spend money on? That they *should* spend money on at this time? It's not the plague. You're being really ridiculous for some reason. Why do you want people to avoid Maine? |
| Ok answer me this. Why are hotels allowed to take reservations for July if out-of-town visitors aren't going to be allowed to go out in public? |
Businesses are allowed to take your reservations. You're still expected to follow the Governor's order if still in place at the time.

| My extended family canceled our July trip to Maine because of the quarantine (part of our family would normally go for a month, while others go for a week, and a 2-week quarantine is very hard to reconcile with that), but also because of larger concerns. For example, reports from locals are that it's taking 2.5 hours to grocery shop because of limited occupancy and long lines, and that's before summer visitors show up. Several of the local restaurants where we go are not planning to open. Community events are being canceled. We are sad to cancel, as my parents have been renting in this community for 50 years and we all love it, but this is a public health emergency and we decided that we can miss one year (which would likely be strange and stressful in any case). |
