Yeah, I didn't get it either. It was a puny order, like $55, of some canned goods and juice that I took to an elderly neighbor. Maybe because it was such a small order? But he was waving me off as I was walking towards him pointing at the envelope that was taped to the post and clearly labeled "Amazon Fresh TIP." He was looking right at it, too. I was talking to him the whole time he made the delivery so I figure either 1) he wanted to get away quick to go someplace where it was quieter, or 2) because it was for my elderly neighbor. He was in a car, not a van or truck, and that surprised me. |
I am a Shipt shopper. We do not receive a good base rate and are highly dependent upon tips. We also use our own car and gas to haul your delivery. We get $7-$10 on average for a $175 grocery shop that takes at least an hour to shop if all goes right. 15-20% for good service is expected. 10% is stingy unless service was so-so. |
| $40 |
I know I am responding to an old thread but just responding to pp. why would a 10% on a delivery be stingy? 10% on 175$ is 17.5$, it’s quite generous. The amount of work a pick up driver does picking up a 15$ pizza or a 3-4 bags worth 175 is pretty much the same. I can understand tipping 20-25% to a server and team who have prepared the food/ been helping you have a great meal over the course of 1-2 hours, but why would a driver need to be tipped 20-25% as well? |

$10.
Percent makes absolutely zero sense. Why should a driver driving 5 miles to go pick up your order get far less compensation than a driver driving 5 miles to go pickup your food from a fancier restaurant? Percent is so stupid. In fact, the McD driver might have harder work if the location is more urban and more traffic..flat fee, period. |
| I don’t tip on the amount of food. I give $5 for fast food and $10 for a large restaurant meal. |
Keep in mind that Amazon Fresh just delivers from point A to B. Shipt and Instacart shoppers both shop and deliver your order, which takes considerably more time. A 10% tip on delivery only for groceries is fine if there’s reliable and free parking at drop-off. A 15-20% tip is more typical for full service shoppers. |
But it's the same amount of work + gas. I don't tip below $12 for takeout. |
Because your lazy ass doesn’t want to leave the house. You have to pay for that service cheapskate. |
| $20. But I'd probably add another $10 on there the week of Christmas. |
Let us be the judge of that. What is your "not ... good base rate"? |
