Rent payments to off-campus apartment daughter moved out of?

airbnb and vrbo are refunding all renters, in this case i would say the same should happen. The governor of the state will say you can break a lease. Landlords should have diversified.

There’s a lease. Read it. Do you think every renter in the country is going to get a free ride because of this virus? Nah.

I’m surprised you have a college-aged child and don’t understand how contracts and leases work. Of course you pay.

Most apartments are owned by private landlords NOT the college. Just because the college shuts down doesn’t mean they do.

You signed the lease. Your daughter has a functional apartment that she could live in — she just chose not to. I’m sorry you’re not getting this but like...ma’am. Think with your head, please.

Maybe OP is a woman, but I missed where OP's gender was specified.

the state as mandated an evacuation, this isn't the same thing idiot, the contract is void in time of war, state of emergency and natural disaster

Commercial RE owners are freaking out that students won’t pay. It all rolls up to larger investors who made money off the 08 financial crisis so don’t worry about this one. Maybe karma?

The state mandated your non-minor child come home to live in your house and told her she was being evacuated from private landlord housing? Mandated that it was not an option to stay where she was?

Are you OP? The state mandated your child leave his/her apartment? The lease contract is void in time of war and natural disaster? I doubt it.

Whoever co-signed the lease will get their credit hurt. Maybe people won’t care.

Do you think all contracts are automatically void in time of war, state of emergency, and natural disaster?

There is no "evacuation" of apartments anywhere.

But can’t the landlords ruin families’ / kids’ credit scores though. Or at least try.
