Why do men usually drive when couples are in the car together?

Women do not drive as well. Fact.

I do not agree with your premise, OP. Whenever we take a road trip I am struck by how few men are driving when there is a couple in the car.

We share a car and the car seat configuration is such that the drivers seat can go back farther than the passenger seat. I am 10 inches shorter so I sit in the no leg room passenger seat while he drives.

My husband is a terrible driver and we used to fight about it. So me driving solved that problem.

Actually, insurance is cheaper for women because they have fewer accidents.

I drive when it’s likely that he will drink and I will not. But if there’s no drinking involved, he drives because I don’t really like to drive.

Nope. I have never had an accident or speeding ticket. Dh has so many. My insurance had always been cheaper than his.

I don’t like to drive, my husband doesn’t like to hand the lD’s snacks and stuff, and he is tall and has less leg room in the passenger seat.

My husband is a terrible driver. I also get motion sick if I’m not driving. So I do 99 percent of the driving.

If we are doing a long road trip, say to Florida, he will do an hour or so until my blood pressure can’t take if anymore.

+1. People were shocked when my sister and her new husband drove away from their wedding, she did the driving. It was her car! He didn’t own sh!t.

We have had a vacation house three hours away and since we bought it seven years ago I have done 99.99999% of the driving to and fro. I think my husband took over once for the last hour of one leg when I was getting tired.
A) He has many many more work-related calls/emails/texts that he needs to take care of right away than I do
B) We both enjoy driving but I dislike being a passenger way more than he does
C) Our kids feel carsick more often when he drives

Same here! He’s reckless. But to his credit, he is a better navigator than I am, so we play to our strengths.

I drive 90% of the time but that's because I get motion sickness if I'm the passenger.

Yep. Female breadwinner here. DH always drives and pays.

My DH hates riding as a passenger. It's not just with me. Going out with friends, he strongly prefer driving. Lunch with coworkers, he always wants to drive. He gets really edgy and anxious sitting in the passenger seat. It's weird.

It actually used to bug me, and we got in a couple arguments about it when we were first dating. On the rare occasion he agreed to ride with me, he was really jumpy, flinching every time another car came up beside us, jamming his feet on the nonexistent brakes at every stoplight. It drove me nuts, so I just stopped driving.
